Did anyone see this on Arsenal.com? Supposedly they are going to have 4 huge heads made of the "Giants" of Highbury and the fans get to vote. There's a list of players and managers and a choice of other for you to send in someone else who's name isn't on the list.

I noticed one very strange thing in the list...the omission of Herbert Chapman, while the list included a luminary such as Martin Keown (who certainly HAS a big head, but that's it).

Interesting.........

If you had a Mount Rushmore of Arsenal and could only put 4 faces on this mountain, who would they be, managers are eligible

1. Herbert Chapman
2. Tony Adams
3. Thierry Henry
4. George Graham (both as a player and manager)

my rational, I think Chapman probably goes first. Adams, perhaps the greatest gunner of them all. First pick in the draft, and never wore another clubs shirt, throughout his career. I left off Bergkamp because he is also a Ajax legend and you can't really be the face of two clubs, especially with such a small group on the mount. Secondly, I always wonder how Arsenal European record would have been different if Bergkamp had made those away games. Ian Wright and Henry can't both be on the list, and Henry recently passed Wright. If he stays with the club, he can only move up the list.

Whose on your mount rushmore

Nobody's on that list as a manager - George Graham is as a player.

Adams
Henry
Brady
James

Woah.... your all quick to forget Bergkamp. We wouldn't of had the last ten years that we have had without him and he is retiring this year and he has continously devoted his playing life to Arsenal since he arrived whilst Henry could be jumping ship.

Chapman already has a bust in the Marble Halls...

Wenger and Adams are automatic choices. I can't be arsed to check, but surely Wenger must have exceeded Chapmans haul by now? Also I think its safe that we will never see another player give us 20 years ever again - so Adams deserves a spot.

An unfair poll really as people will naturally gravitate to those players they remember (although not always)

IMO - one who should not even be considered is Graham, he was not amongst the greatest as a player and, despite his record as a manager, I can't forget the bung scandal.

Alex James - the brains behind Arsenal's greatest ever side
Frank Mclintock - the epitomy of the Arsenal attitude. Never-say-die, determination, fighting spirit and an inspirational leader
Tony Adams - ditto
Liam Bergkamp - just for the memories.

Liam Bergkamp?

Liam Bergkamp?
I know - I just gave up trying to decide between them. Maybe one of the heads could be "half and half"

Not all players but

Sir Henry Norris, all that ducking and diving worked wonders.
Herbert Chapman..Set the standards that we still adhere today.
Tony Adams..because he's Tony Adams
Liam Brady...In my opinion still the best I've ever seen

It's about more than just Chapman's haul of trophies. It's about putting the white sleeves, inventing the WM formation at Arsenal and changing the tube station from Gillespie Road to Arsenal. It's also about being one of the first managers to pick the team himself and using physiotherapists. He also advocated white footballs, foodlights and numbered shirts. He also played a role in commissioning the East and West stands at Highbury.

He's to Arsenal what Rinus Michels is to Ajax - there is a before Chapman and an after Chapman, and Wenger, as great as he is, is only inheriting a club Chapman built.

Sure, which is exactly why Chapman has a bust in the Marble Halls. What I *should* have said is that Wenger is deserving of recognition for his (on the pitch) achievments in a post modern club.
