After his great performance today, does anyone think that he deserves a place in the England squad? He's a complete class act, can score goals, can create goals, and is very young too. He derserves to be the 4th striker ahead of Bent and Defoe IMHO.

Is this the Peter Crouch who was the "star of the show" against your lot yesterday?

You mean the man who scored against Boumsong. Jesus, your blind disabled grandmother could outwit him and score.

we'll just have to put up with having crouch now, there's no way anyone else will get into the squad at this stage, especially since now everyone's got it into their heads that he's some kind of secret weapon against south american teams.
if anything defoe's place is more at risk because he's been spending a lot of time on the bench this season.

Ashton will have to wait till the European championships. The squad is almost all sorted. Just one or two places to be settled i.e 4th striker etc..

Crouch would get in ahead of Bent (who was total shit for England) anyway. Bent only looks good because he's an average player in a ************ team.

i agree, darren bent's total of 15 lucky premiership goals (which were all crap anyway) this season is completely eclipsed by crouch's magnificent tally of 6.
anyway, they'll probably both be in the squad.
bent did look crap for england, but then he's only had one chance, and it's not as if he was spoiled with quality service. got one chance he should have scored which he snatched at, but then it's not as if everything crouch touches sails into the top corner is it.

Don't let Ashton go to the world cup. We want to win.

Ashton won't feature and I doubt Bent will either, Svenski will almost certainly take Defoe - low risk strategy - needs to keep his CV in order....... :(
Ashton did play well last night, but it was only Manure Sh!tty, hardly the greatest test, which leads to my despair at people mentioning Pearce as the National boss - if that happens after SGE has bolted, I promise, I'll become a full fledged sweaty........... :( skirt, ginger beard and all!!!
At this stage of the proceedings I think I would take Defoe as well, although Bent is very underrated!
But then again, if Mikey doesn't make it???

Ashton has deserved to be in the team since his move to Norwich last season. I mean he scored 7 goals in the 2nd half of the season last season and thats after 19 goals for Crewe in just half a season. Hes also played well for the England U-21's. He is far better than Crouch and deserves to be in the team. Crouch cant create goals like Ashton can. He cant go on a 20 yard run and skip past 3 or 4 defenders like Ashton can. Ashton IMO is one of the most underrated players in the world.

I didn't say he was crap, I said he was average. Which he is.
Remember Kevin Phillips scoring 30 for Sunderland? Is Phillips superman? No, he isn't.
Remember Forsell the other year?
It's easy to look good in a shower of shit.
How about England takes David Bentley too, or maybe Frank Jeffers. Jeffers tore up the Under-21s, scored loads of goals. Who cares that he can't provide anything else?
Oh I got another one, why not Luke Moore too? Sure he's unproven, but he's scoring for Villa!
Speaking of one hit wonders, where's Andy Johnson? He's not even top scorer in the championship.

I'd rather take Ashton than Crouch. He's better in the air, a better finisher, much faster and scores more goals. But this is similar to the Beckham debate - Sven has already made up his mind about Crouch. If he takes a 5th striker, Ashton has a chance, but he has had no experience with England, so he will probably have to wait until 2008.
I also read this week that people are calling for Beattie to be picked. I guess he has been playing well and is quite similar to Ashton / Shearer in style (something which England don't have at the moment). Hopefully our top 11 will stay fit and these debates will be pointless.

He looks a bit of a chubber.
Since we are now basing our striker selection on extremes of physique, that can only stand him in good stead.
And, having used the word 'stead', it's definitely time to throw Jon Stead into the mix for the fourth striker. Sure, he's scored no goals at all this season, but that means there must be loads coming. Cap Stead!

I give you Ro nal do
However - the debate is an effin waste of time, whether u like him or not, barring injury, the longun is going - at the expense, probably of Bent - Ashton doesn't feature yet, he will but not yet..............
