Ahhhh, yessss, you think ... here's another "What's that song?" thread started by someone who's not sure what he's heard, but is appealing to the BigSoccer community (insert trademark here) to help him figure out what it is so that he can give Apple Computers (AAPL (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=AAPL)) some hard-earned cash.

Still, do we not help each other here anyhow? I know I tried to help one time when somebody posted a similar thread, although my suggestion was way off. So thanks for your help here anyhow.

This song was left on my voice mail some years ago during a, uhhhh, interesting period in my life. I can only describe it as sounding very 1930s, with that big band sound to it. The words I made out were something like "I'll never again fall in love" with a trumpet (or other horn instrument) solo building up the scale to quite the finish. One part of the song had "I'll never again" split from "fall in love" with a horn solo.

I asked the guy at the Tower Records store in Seattle who specializes in music from that era, and he drew a blank. But I still continue on with my quest. Does anyone know what I'm talking about with this song? Thanks.

I can only think of the Burt Bacharach song "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" made popular by Dionne Warwick, but that was a bit later than the Forties...it was actually 1970 when it was a hit.

But it does have French Horn (which may be the trumpet you are talking about)...

Here's the snippet @ iTunes Store.

That's the song that I was thinking of as well. My mother is a massive Dionne Warwick fan, so I heard the song a zillion times as a kid.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions - I'll Never Fall in Love Again

ya?

What do you get when you fall in love?
A guy with a pin to burst your bubble
That's what you get for all your trouble
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

What do you get when you kiss a girl
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia
After you do, she'll never phone you
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

Don't tell me what it's all about
'Cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out
Out of those chains those chains that bind you
That is why I'm here to remind you

What do you get when you give your heart
You get it all broken up and battered
That's what you get, a heart that's shattered
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

Out of those chains those chains that bind you
That is why I'm here to remind you

What do you get when you fall in love?
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
So for at least until tomorrow
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

That's the song, but Elvis C. never put it out with The Attractions as far as I know. He did sing it with Burt B. in one of the Austin Powers movies, though.

Whoops. Almost forgot about this thread. That's what happens when you post while drunk.

It is most definitely NOT the Warwick or Bacharach versions. I've heard those plenty of times before. The song I'm thinking of I've never heard before or since.

But thanks, though. You've been repped.

I've been in love so many times
Thought I knew the score
But now you've treated me so wrong
I can't take anymore
And it looks like
I'm never gonna fall in love again
Fall in love, I'm never gonna fall in love
I mean it
Fall in love again
All those things I heard about you
I thought they were only lies
But when I caught you in his arms
I just broke down and cried
And it looks like
I'm never gonna fall in love again
Fall in love, no, I'm never gonna fall in love
I mean it, I mean it
Fall in love again
I gave my heart so easily
I cast aside my pride
But when you fell for someone else, baby
I broke up all inside
And it looks like
I'm never gonna fall in love again
That's why I'm a-singin' it
Fall in love, no, I'm never gonna fall in love
Please don't make me
Fall in love again

I don't think this is the one you're talking about, but I'm taking a shot in the dark to try to help you out.

There's a song by Eric Carmen (I think) where the chorus goes:

Never gonna fall in love again
Never gonna find someone new
'Cause I couldn't bear to see it end
Just like me and you

No, I never want to feel the pain
Of remembering how it used to be
Never gonna fall in love again
Just like you and me

There's a horn at the beginning as well, IIRC.

Thanks, gentlemen, but neither Mr. Jones nor Mr. Carmen even came close to the net. Closer to the corner flags, actually.

Right now, I guess this song is going to stay a mystery to me.
