I see three options in attack
1) long ball to a target forward that flicks on to a speedy forward
2) ball played wide to the wing for crosses
3) combinations up the middle
With LD and Mathis up front really only option 3 is available.
Now McBride and Donovan up front with a play maker in midfield options 1-2-3 are available.
Mathis is really the problem because he is not mobile enough to be the speedster and too small to be a target forward or finisher of crosses.
Twellman can finish on crosses and can also flick on headers. He will also stretch the defense.
To have variability in attack I recommend the following
-------------Twellman----Donovan
-----------------Mathis
Convey-------------------------------Ralston
-------------Mastroeni ---???
------Bocanegra----Califf-----Garcia
-----------------GK
Guys like Vagenas, Victorine, Mulrooney etc can be paired next to Mastroeni.
