Today (Mar 19)'s results below:

Everton beats Villa 4-1
Man City loses 0-1 to Wigan
West Ham loses 2-4 to Portsmouth

mean that Everton will finish this week's play in 9th spot. :)

I've been trying to figure out where we need to finish to earn a UEFA Cup spot, and this is what I've come up with:

#1-2 in final standings: Champion's League group stage
#3-4: Champion's League qualifying round
#5: UEFA Cup
#6: UEFA Cup (due to Man Utd's win of the League Cup)
#7: UEFA Cup (only if the two FA Cup finalists are in the top 6)

Is this correct?

And how does the Intertoto Cup figure into all of this?

For the InterToto, I think I read somewhere that of all the teams that applied...the one that finishes higher will go

That makes sense.

I checked UEFA's Intertoto site, and it said that one representative from each federation will be invited to the tournament.

The 11 teams that are victorious in the 3rd round of the Intertoto go on to the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

So even if we don't make the UEFA, we'll probably be highest of the intertoto teams. Right?

Depends on who applied. Blackburn applied so we gotta finish above them if we are bot out of the top 6.

But why would Blackburn play in the Intertoto if they make the UEFA Cup by league standings? Am I missing something?

Here's some info on the Intertoto qualifying process from the BBC:

Boro have asked to be put forward as one of England's representatives - as have Everton and Blackburn.

Under new rules, applicants must finish in one of the four places below clubs qualifying for the Champions League and Uefa Cup, with the highest team picked.

Bolton, Man City, Newcastle, and Wigan have also reportedly shown interest in the Intertoto (though its not clear which, if any, of them have applied):

Apparently Middlesborough,Blackburn and ourselves i think have entered into it.

The final closing date was about a month and a half ago.

With the Blackburn thing like sara said, if they finish in a uefa cup spot or better then whoever entered into the intertoto that finshes the highest behind Blackburn get that spot. Not sure if that makes sense.

Im sure i heard somewhere that any team that wants to be entered into the intertoto then they have to finish no lower than 9th. Im not sure about this myself but i remember hearing it somewhere.

That's basically what the BBC article says:

(aside: did you read my post? :) )

Based on the BBC article, since the top 6 teams this season will get CL or UEFA spots, then a team would need to finish between 7th and 10th to be eligible for the Intertoto.

They fear that they may not end up in the top six. Then they got the inteToto safety net to catch them.

I think the #6 spot goes to Wigan for being in the final by itself. I think. Not sure.

I think that its the fa cup runner up that takes that uefa cup spot if the winner of it is in the champs league not the carling cup runner up.

Well I KNOW for sure that the FA Cup champ gets UEFA Cup, not Champions League (rememeber they combined Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup combined). Carling Cup winner gets UEFA Cup, but sinces it Man U, who already will be in Europe regardless, I think the loser (Wigan) gets the bid, provided that they don't finish in top 7 (again, not sure about that).

I've read in several articles that only the winner of the League Cup can earn an UEFA Cup spot.

Should the winner of the League Cup already have a spot in Europe, then the 6th place team in the EPL, and not the League Cup runner up, gets the UEFA spot.

The FA Cup is different. If the FA Cup winner already has a spot in Europe, then the FA Cup runner up gets an invitation to the UEFA Cup.

Well a few years ago, Millwall got to the final, but lost to Man United. Does that mean that Millwall was in Europe? Because i don't remember that.

Yea they were...and got promptly killed by it and nearly got relegated to League One.
