That's alot better than UncleDrayton's 7$ draft:)
Amen brother!!!
Am I the only one that hopes Drayton doesn't buy the team because of how big a penny-pincher he is with the Astros?

Why do people say this? The Astros payroll last year was $76 million. That was 12th highest in MLB. A little bit higher than the White Sox, BTW.

True, you don't have to spend the most to have the best team. They were smart in not going any higher for Beltran and his year last season was nowhere near the 18 million the Mets had to pay him. He hit less than 20 home runs and had seventy something rbi's.....

I'm not saying they need to spend like the Yankees, but after Hunsinger left, Pupura coasted by last year, not signing really anyone, and was fortunate enough for the team to come back after an embarrassing first half. So far this year, we got Preston Wilson and...nothing. They still need to do something about the anemic offense, and I haven't seen a replacement for Clemens should he not come back.
I'll start an Astros thread when the season starts so we can have more watercooler chat. Two opening days in a row baby! :D

Not due to team spending, due to Ballpark-Bull#$%.
After visiting various outher MajorLeague Baseball parks, then doing some research, I understood the issues alot of people have about our ticket prices, concessions and rules about bringing in foreign food/drink.
The ticket prices from 2000 to 2006 have increased substantially EVERY year since being in the new stadium, while drawing record crowds every year.
Not to mention the multiple increases in concessions ($7 beer is tied for higest w/LA) (highest hotdog $4, tied w/5).
I love the Astros, but if we're not a small or middle market team like Drayton claims we are, we should not have the 7th higest avg. ticket price, and various other gouging.

$20 tickets? sounds quite cheap to be honest. $7 beer on the other hand, is insane.

For a game that is played almost every day, 20$ is quite expensive.
Also, the 'terrace deck' are upper level seats...the cheap'er' seats.
You once could get in the gate for a $5-er, and now even that has been raised to 7$. That's the one that pisses me off the most.
Yes, I'm cheap seat scum:o
btw, Smiley...you're in Wales. Ya'll know all about sheep, not American Baseball ticket prices.;)

Considering they were $13 a few years ago, yeah that's expensive.

Boy, we should really start an "NSR: Astros" thread and move these posts. But had to agree w/my "cheap scum" compadre here. How dare they raise the price on the el cheapo grande seats. In addition, was looking at the season schedule page last night on the Astros site, saw no mention (at least so far) of the ticket deals they had last year on the far outfield seats or on the mezzanine seats.
Respectfully submitted,

Considering the Dynamo is direct competition to the Astros, I doubt DM will buy the team.
But you bring up valid points about the weakness of Astros organization - expensive tickets, expensive beer, prices always higher, plus Clemens could be gone with nothing to show for it. Good thing the Cards are supposed to be down, the Cubs just lost their season (Prior's arm), and the Brewers are not ready.
There is a definite place in the lanscape for a cheaper, more actioned-packed, personal fan experience in Houston.

New thread. Feel free to start a new one for the Astros when the season starts if this one doesn't work out.
(just fyi - there's also a pretty good Baseball forum (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=862) on BS, although I think it's also perfectly fine to have a few Houston OT threads - we can also set up a Houston OT subforum if there's enough interest - just some thoughts...)

I think this is actually one way that Houston SC can appeal to fans, especially if beer is only $4.50 like someone mentioned. I'm looking forward to the games already. Drink up at the tailgate, have a couple of beers at the game, then still have time to go out Saturday with other friends. :)
So what do you think the chances are of Clemens coming back to Houston? He did well during past seasons for us but got tired and sore at playoff time. He has to wait till May 1 before the Astros can talk to him, so he could come back around Memorial Day and stay fresh throughout the season and into the playoffs.

Total agreement on the Dynamo Robertson games - still time to go out on Saturday - good point.
Clemens is bargaining so I think he will be back. Yeah, he's pissed that the Stros didn't automatically protect him, but that is business and he knows that. The dollars don't change much no matter where you go, if you're Clemens. Might as well stay home with your friends and have a good time - the AL East options are just too far away, and the Rangers are not a fun organization (Showalter). So I think he is back. Will he retire? No way. His wife probably knows every penny he is bringing in and wants those big bucks to continue.
Clemens might not have been so sore last year if he wasn't pitching so many innings at the end without any run support. Where was the Porpuss in the off-season getting bats?
The Astros could win the NL Central, but several other teams look strong - the Mets are intriguing, Bravos are always good, Cards have a new home and maybe they get rejuvinated, and I like the Brewers.

Anderson, I love the idea of an off topic thread. I love just hearing random stuff about people's days.

What would everyone think of having a Supporters Group night out at an Astros game? Groups of 20+ get a slight discount and I think they put the group's name on the scoreboard between the 8th inning. Maybe a double-header with a Houston SC afternoon game and an Astros night game?

That sounds like a pretty sweet idea....
Maybe wait until June or something like that so we can try and get plenty of people...
