That's funny -- I always thought it was "Zofo." But of course it's the old english "s," not an "f." Duh.

I'm off to trod on a 18" Stonehenge . . .

Thank God he didn't name the thread after this:

Considering the day, I'm sure Meridian's half in the bag already. If he's not, I've lost respect for him. But I know that's not the case.

In fact, I intend to drink several Guinnisses in his honor at The Pogues show tonight.

I am also Irish. Judge comments will get very interesting over the next 24 hours.

You'd be surprised, I usually have a pretty mellow Féile Pádraig. I worked in Irish (or Oirish if you prefer) bars for years so I can barely tolerate the lame hijinx that folks get up to. I'd told someone earlier that I usually get a case of Beamish, barricade myself in the house, and beat anyone that tries to enter with my old hurley.

That said I'm in my very fine Co. Antrim hurling jersey and maybe I'll have one pint of plain for lunch.

Reminds me *** ***** ****, *** *********, *** ****** ********, *******, and ***** ****** ******* are still not taken. Git wit' it yis.

Well that's only right and natural. One of the best moments of my life was belting that out at Parkhead during a Champions League match a few years back. Make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

Sixth selection:

With all the talk of New York blah blah blah ... I have to take a Boston band. Though more mainstream than their contemporaries, I take one of the better New Wave bands and though they may not be as adored as the Talking Heads are currently, I still think they deserve to be represented.

The Cars - The Cars

With four legit new wave classics that still sound relevant to this day, this album still kicks ass. Though it is only nine songs long, there is not an ounce of filler on the whole album. And if a dude as ugly as Rick Ocasek can land a girl like Paulina Porizkova you know he was pretty damn cool.

Have fun. The Washington Post's review of their show was pretty depressing. ***** ******* was apparently completely wasted and is now almost 100% toothless.

Pick Number 6

http://trusworld.com/alb/lynn-loretta1.jpg
Loretta Lynn - Coal Miners Daughter

Some of my favorite country singers have been chosen already so I decided to go with one from my childhood that I adored.
Loretta Lynn, to me, is up there with Johnny Cash just of the oppostie sex. Her voice has always been able to give me goose bumps. And the subject of her lyrics were never compromised.
Is it her best album? Perhpas not as she has released quite alot of music in her days, but this one sits on my shelf at home and was transplanted there from my folks house.
I would definitely offer it up to ET and his peoples. This is NOT a soundtrack as the film(1980) was based on her life and took the name of this song/album which was released in 1971.

Great pick, even if it was in response to my middle Atlantic chauvinism. (And I do have a lot of it - I lost a little respect for the Pixies when I found out that they were from Boston.)

Actually, now that I think about it, there are quite a few indie rock sacred cows that were from Boston - the aforementioned Pixies, ********, *******, and ******* ** *****.

It was always going to be my next pick - but its always fun taking shots at New Yorkers and their over self-importance - not that there is an inferiority complex on this end or anything...

For reference, Quango/Colbert-style:

Dead to me: Los Angeles
Never existed to me: New England
On notice: the Bay Area

I love this album. My older sisters had it on 8-track when I was a kid and I'd sit on their floor listening to it over and over. Great memories and album.

I'll be back in five minutes with my pick.

Loretta Lynn - Coal Miners Daughter

Now thats some ********ing Country.

It's also the first piece of evidence supporting my claim that the 70s were the greatest decade of country music.
