Great, thanks! In case you are curious, my data file is below, and you can see my screwup was that I omitted a comma after Frank Yallop, so that my code invented for itself a crazy field.

IIRC, Houston does not have ownership of San Jose's records right? Wouldn't that apply to their number assignments as well? In effect, Houston would be considered a new team, whereas San Jose would be "defunct"?

I considered this, but I favored carrying the team through because of continuity in the rosters. So my standard is player-based, rather than franchise-based.
