deduction of points, just relegated the freaks to division 3, and then no one will notice or care.

It's a positive step by FIFA. It's about time they do something substantial.

They should just relegate the first club to do it. Then when everyone realizes they are serious the cr*p should stop.

mmm. I must say I love the idea of punishing a third party for the crime - rather than the actual criminal. Reeks of Left-Wing "Justice"

Course if they ever adopt that here before the end of the season the first thing im gonna do is go buy a Spurs shirt. Off down the Lane for 3pm, hurl some abuse at any visiting black players, and have 4th place sewn up for Arsenal by 4:45pm

I like the idea of cracking down on racism in football but I don't see how this is going to work. If I get tickets to a Chelski game, dress in their kit, and make racist chants, they lose 3 points? If so, I can see a new focus to ArseAm trips to London. Three games and we'll have them playing in the Coke league. ;)

Edit: I see Dave has the same idea for Spurs.

This is great for league play, but what he doesn't talk about it national teams. That's what jumped out at me. What about the Spains, Italys, and Eastern European countries where this stuff goes down during national games? Will they be forced to play behind closed doors? Docked points in either that qualifying campaign? Booted out of a competition? What about if it occurs during a friendly?

Its a start, but that's all.

I agree. There is no real punishment for clubs with the racist supporters.

For example, I believe La Liga fines their clubs something like 600 euros for racist crowds. Does 600 euros mean anything for the likes of Real Madrid or Valencia?

I hope all the leagues in Europe follows suit and punish teams with points. I'm sure if a team that is two points away from relegation or qualifying Europe would start to actually care about the actions of their racist supporters.

If it's one twat making monkey chants, no one's going to bloody hear it.

The Eto'o incident was far more than one twat. It was tens of thousands of people making monkey chants every time he touched the ball. Clubs in Europe have shown time and time again they aren't willing to put in the extra effort to rid football of racism and far-right elements, so they deserve their punishment.

I don't even think it's a start. Until they actually deduct points, or relegate teams, I'm going to see this as a gesture to shut Rio Turdinand's moaning up.

Are you saying that clubs have no control over what happens in their stadiums and are therefore entirely innocent parties? "Reeks of Right-Wing complacency".

They have a degree of control - and personally I feel they should do everything possible to disuade rascism in thier grounds, but the clubs they ARE entirely innocent and should not be punished for the actions of a third party. Instead the fans RESPONSIBLE should be punished, either by bans, or by playing the games behind closed doors.

It only takes a handful of idiots near the mics to accomplish that. Then you could also have people making racist displays on camara that can be done with just a few people. My point is that outside of stadium-wide racist chants and the like FIFA will have trouble enforcing this standard. Don't get me wrong. I'd love for them to crack down on racism but I have little faith that FIFA will correctly implement a reasonable policy. On that issue, my guess is that the "little clubs" get all of the punishments. Anyone really think Real Madrid will get relegated even if there is repeated racism there?

In Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe this is certainly not the case. The clubs themselves ARE responsible. Banners that are racist should not be allowed in. Are you really telling me that when a Inter Milan thug threw a motorbike from a terrace that the club were not responsible for letting it in? Disagree with you on this. It IS the clubs responsibility and the ONLY way to stop it is to have the points deduction and larger fines. With CCTV today there should be no problem in picking out the offenders atgames and banning them. It's what we do here. Not so In Italy and Spain.
