I scanned through it at a listening station in a store the other day. Most of the CD doesn't really impress me; it sort of alternates between a lazy, but somewhat soulless, folkish sound and a 60s rock type sound.
But there is one song -- that I had heard getting some radio airplay -- that is almost worth buying the CD for in and of itself. I think it's called "Its Written in the Stars" (song #4). It's got a very catchy use of horns; its actually the type of song that's just begging to be remixed slightly into something more upbeat.

The first four or five tracks are great, but the CD peters out from there. Not a very good effort from a great artist. It pains me to say it, but I'll be trading away this CD as soon as I can.

Personally I think if he were to elimante all songs about sticks, rocks, leaves, grass, etc. he'd be all right. Ever since the Paul Weller Movement he's gone downhill, his stuff is just too MOR. Each CD since has contained 2 or 3 brilliant or hopeful songs and the rest is just boring crap. His live show was good, he did 3 Jam songs and 1 TSC. But, try as might I just can't get into his new mellow stuff.

I think his new album is great, but not for everyone. Definitely "dadrock". I saw him this weekend at the Warfield and he was fantastic. Very laid back, but very into it with a great energy about him.

Tears for Fears had it right.
