Sorry, I thought you said this.

I did, and if you think for a second the George Mason's of the world wouldn't hand a car to Shelden Williams out of HS...you're out of your mind. Point is, they can't recruit on that level, they recruit guys who are just excited to get to play college ball for a few years, not those who feel like they are "robbed" from not being able to go straight to the league.

How do you know where those kids got there cars? When i was in college, i know that some of the players made their money the old fashioned way... by selling drugs.

Funny, I guess "six in one, half a dozen in the other" comes to mind.

So you've visited Duke's campus and seen the players luxury cars with your own eyes?

Nope, that's the beauty of this day and age, phones and internet make it amazingly easy for me an OU reporter, to call up a Duke reporter, or a Arizona reporter...I hope you get the idea.

Obviously they aren't paying their players enough money. Or maybe its because they haven't had a good Football program since Spurrier left. Like i said before, atheletes want to play for winning teams.

Of course they do, which goes back to my George Mason point above. But what separates UK from Duke? UNC from Kansas? Villanova from UConn? Etc. etc.

I've never been to Durham, but the parts of North Carolina that i have been to were really nice. Also last time i checked, Duke was one of the top academic schools in the country.

yes, and that's the reason guys choose Duke. Academics. I could write a 27 part story on the players I've talked to over the years who claimed their deciding factor was "academics, I'm not leaving without my degree"...only to either announce themselves eligible for the draft, drop out of college, or leave after a year for the league.

For every 1 J.J. Redick there are 100 Corey Magettes.

Who are you talking about?

Your lame and naive "Barry Switzerland" comment.

Gainsville Florida is the crime capital of America? i wonder why all my relatives who go to school there never mentioned that, they said it was a really cool town with a beautiful campus, i didn't know it was like Detroit.

Who said "crime capital of america"...you really do spin things absurdly out of control. I said it has a high national crime rate.

And actually in the link I'll provide it ranks higher in violent crime than the city you're trying to tear down...Detroit. http://www.bestplaces.net/crime/?city1=2900&city2=2160

And in this other...it ranks ahead of...GASP...Durham. http://www.morganquitno.com/cit04a.pdf

Look i don't really know if Duke's program is dirty or not, but if you want to convince me that it is, show me some evidence other than "Everyone else is doing it, so they must be too"

I don't bite the hand that feeds. Not even for a petty argument for a fan in denial. How do we get most of our info? From coaches who say "hey we just got a commit from this kid"...so going and ratting them out...well that just doesn't seem like good business to me.

Again, I never expected you to believe, so that's fine. Have a good one, and enjoy the Final 4.

No, it's definitely not at every school, not even the majority.

I mean, who pays money for a 6-foot PG without a great first step and best quality is that he's a coaches son? Those are in every small town in the country. :)

Just some of the top kids of which a group Duke brings in EVERY year.

Of course every fan thinks their team is the exception to the rule, so Anti's response is not only expectable, but one that I could sub in for almost any fan of a school in the country.
Not my school!!! Of course I did go to a D-II school that is under investigation for granting students illegal in-state status to save scholarship money, so even I can't talk.

erm, Go BRUINS???

i'm stoked. this is all icing on the cake. had no real notions of getting this far.
Congrats feej. I am SOOOO happy that Uconn lost, such is my hate for Uconn that by (overrated) Big East association I was quite pleased that Villanova lost as well.

I can now enjoy the final four.

Gonna have to break from the go pac-10 stance now and route against UCLA for recruiting purposes :) I'm sure you understand. I'm hoping for a LSU-GMU final.

It's unamerican to be pulling for anyone else unless of course your team is among the Final 4.

OK, so you're saying George Mason runs a dirty program? Or they don't have to because they won't get the top recruits anyway? I figured that their players were pretty good, but that's just because they made the final four.Funny, I guess "six in one, half a dozen in the other" comes to mind. To me there's a huge difference. If you want to know where the players you see are getting their money, maybe you should be talking to the local bookies and not the coaches. Know what i mean?
Nope, that's the beauty of this day and age, phones and internet make it amazingly easy for me an OU reporter, to call up a Duke reporter, or a Arizona reporter...I hope you get the idea.
Got it, just substitute internet gossip for actual observation. The basis of modern journalism.

Of course they do, which goes back to my George Mason point above. But what separates UK from Duke? UNC from Kansas? Villanova from UConn? Etc. etc. You tell me.

yes, and that's the reason guys choose Duke.
At Duke there is actually 1 Redick for 1 Magette. Let me put it this way, if Basketball is your major, Duke is the number one "academic" school in the country. If you don't believe it, ask yourself if Mike Dunleavy would have been a #3 NBA pick if he'd gone anywhere else.
Your lame and naive "Barry Switzerland" comment. That was just a joke, son. Sorry if it hit a little too close to home.
Who said "crime capital of america"...you really do spin things absurdly out of control. I said it has a high national crime rate.

Well, what can i say, statistics never lie.
I don't bite the hand that feeds. Not even for a petty argument for a fan in denial. How do we get most of our info? From coaches who say "hey we just got a commit from this kid"...so going and ratting them out...well that just doesn't seem like good business to me. Great journalistic ethics there. If only all reporters had the balls not to "rat" on the subjects they cover. So a coach getting a commitment from a player = we just paid this kid a fortune? I guess you've convinced me that's how it works at OU, and i'm not surprised. But that's still not evidence that any other school is dirty but yours.
Again, I never expected you to believe, so that's fine. Have a good one, and enjoy the Final 4 I will, and i'll be rooting for Florida, i feel bad that those kids have to live in a shithole like Gainesville.

Hey, i'm not looking for an argument, and its not like i'm the worlds biggest Duke fan. I just have a lot of respect for Coach K, and if someone is going to try to convince me that he's a cheater, i'd like to hear some evidence of it.

In other news, ESPN-Oklahoma hopes to avoid postseason ban

I just don't like being characterized as "fan in denial" just because i think that some college coaches might actually run clean programs. Sorry if i get a little offended by that kind of dismissive, ad hominem attack.

Ehhh, forget it. I knew I should have said nothing from the start.

It's my job, you know more than I do about it...so be it.

I'll go back to the main board...where we all know our players are paid for.:D

DL,

Nothing personal at all man, I spend most of my time working on my website and talking to fans, I've got no beef with Anti and hope he doesn't with me.

I guess we'll agree to disagree, but somehow I can't help but relive Anchorman.

"Doesn't it mean 'Saint Diego'?"

"No."

"No, that's what it means"

"Well, agree to disagree"

Anti, we're both Arsenal fans...and to me that's what matters on this board. :)

And I'd like to add that we have similar thoughts on coach K, I think he's a heck of a guy and a good man, his comments following the loss to LSU were about as class as they possibly could be losing two players that I'm sure he loves like sons.

No worries dudes, I wasn't trying to be a cop or anything, nor is it really my business. Just pointing out that from the 3rd person perspective I was starting to notice a little de-evolution in the proceedings.

don't forget Rodney.

Its cool, i can be a little touchy sometimes, sorry if i got a little out of line. Agree to disagree, and i'll drop it. OK, after just one last dig...

Ehhh, forget it. I knew I should have said nothing from the start. Yeah, you're probably right, especially with that recruiting class OU has coming in next year. Five top prospects?! Wow, what's going on down there? Wait, don't answer that. ;) :D
