Anyone want to back me up on this one? :)

But Hey guys, i'm not trying to piss anyone off, but i am a little ornery today. What would a discussion of sports be without outrageously biased opinions?
Hey JP throw in some politics and religion and we might be able to start a war in here! ;) :p

well seriously, under Anti's logic Earl Weaver is a horrible manager because he only won one World Series in his 16 years

(note - I have the orioles)

I think you get my point.
Did the Orioles have the best talent in the country? Is Joe Torre a great manager? I'm starting to suspect that he's the Dean Smith of baseball. ;)

Dean Smith= most overrated coach ever.

Under Dean Smith, the Tar Heels finished in the top three of the ACC for 33 straight years, from 1964 until 1997.

Think about how much changed in those 33 years: the money, the media coverage, the recruiting, the evolution of the players, the evolution of the game. Regardless of whether Smith's teams (and opposing teams) were tall or short, slow or fast, good or bad shooters; regardless of whether the players got along off the court or not; regardless of injuries, personal problems, academic issues; regardless of any of this, his teams finished in the top 3 of the toughest conference in the nation.

That, to me, is his most remarkable achievement, and I don't think it'll ever happen again.

The fact that Duke has done as well as they have in UNC's backyard makes their achievements even more impressive.

I'm not going to denigrate Coach K as you did with Smith; he's great. But Duke was a great program before Coach K got there. They're 4th all time in wins:

Not pissing me off, nothing like a little debate to get the juices flowing. As long as you don't stoop to the retarded debating skills of some (no names shall be mentioned) posters on this board it's all good.

Just don't diss the zags! ?? Oh my god did i just say that?

Shoot me now.

They're 4th all time in wins: I wouldn't know, i'm not a basketball historian. I'd never heard of Duke before Coach K, but then again i wasn't a huge College B-Ball fan in my infancy.

True! But the reality is they had just as many bad years as good. That's not true anymore.

Dude, c'mon its Gonzaga! Ten years ago, if you said Gonzaga to most basketball fans they would say "Didn't John Stockton go there? Where the hell is that school anyway?"

Coach K has won 12 National Coach of the Year awards:

While Dean Smith only won 4:

So who exactly is doing the overrating of Dean Smith?

North Carolina fans.

Ah.

Well, I guess this is one of those agree-to-disagree situations. All I can say is that, as a guy who's been following basketball since the late 70s, I think that saying "Dean Smith is overrated" is about as accurate as saying "Didier Drogba is the best striker in the Premiership".

Dude, it was a joke to set up a highly self-amusing self-slam. Rank on the zags until the cows come home, which you weren't doing anyway.

No need to be a dick.

Wasn't trying to be a dick -- it was supposed to be a humorous "we may disagree but at least we can agree on something" lines. Sorry if it didn't come across that way; I guess sounding like a dick comes naturally to me.

Here's something we can (maybe?) all laugh at: a selection of JJ Redick's...um..."poetry" from SI.

I bet it sounds a lot like Vanilla Ice if you read it with hip-hop in the background.

Harrick was a good recruiter. At least good enough to keep the homegrown talent at home. Anybody can win with the right players and a little luck. Hell, even Jim Boeheim won a National Title!

AND score a trophy coed bride! how about that Boeheim. bwahahhahhahahha!
