For those of you not familiar with NE Ohio, here's where the residents and the politicians are already lining up for the fight:

looks so far from downtown :(

From right smack downtown, it's only 26 minutes.

Only - here's the big plus - nobody much will be coming from downtown.

They'll be coming from those Eastern suburbs - Shaker, Cleveland Heights, etc.

Under 20 minutes.

Parma to the West - 25 minutes.

Most of those people would be very hard pressed to get to a downtown arena in under 25 minutes.

This is very close to where the old Coliseum at Richfield used to be. The Cleveland Force, Cavaliers, Barons, etc. all did very, very well there. It's quick and easy to get to.

Personally, I'd love to have it downtown. Bart Wolstein's initial vision was to have it share a parking lot with Jacobs Field on some old railroad property. Many many bars, restaurants, and best of all a Rapid Station, all within strolling distance. Would have been great.

City wasn't interested.

Lets not forget the Akron/Canton crowd.

Akron may be able to get to Cleveland without too much hastle for games, but Canton - forget about it. I don't see too many "casual" fans making a trip from Canton more than once or twice a season.

In the Macedonia Area its much more reasonable.

Not to mention...fills a sporting void in a sense for the locals and Akroners who don't make it up to downtown to follow sports, as much as they did when they were closer, very often. If this goes down, they'll have a closer sports team to spend their $$$ on, like they did with the Cavs, Force, etc....

Oddly enough, Parma is more Polish and German than Italian. Go figure.

45 mins for us extreme northwest-siders. For us, if you have convenient access to the turnpike then you're in good shape. Depend on 480? You're screwed.

A bit far for the casual fan to go more than once or twice a year. Not for this season ticket holder though.

Keep in mind there are a lot of Summit County communities which are HUGE on soccer. The fact this is so close to Hudson will help big time. Now if only the NIMBYs in Northfield Center would quit acting like their township is isolated and acknowledge the fact that this could be a huge financial boon.

Obviously sir you are not a Drew Carey fan.

While the penultimate theme song was the old Vogues' tune five o'clock world:

Up every morning just to keep a job
I gotta find my way to the hustling mob
Sounds of the city pounding in my brain
while another day runs down the drain.....

And the last one was of course the Cleveland Rocks theme written by former Mott the Hoople front man Ian Hunter,

All this energy calling me
back where I come from
such a crude attitude
it's back where it belongs
All the little chicks with the crimson lips go
Cleveland rocks, Cleveland rocks
She's livin in sin with a safety pin
goin Cleveland rocks....

The original season theme song was of course the classic Moon over Parma:

Moon over Parma bring my love to me tonight
Guide her to Cleveland underneath your silvery light
We're goin' bowling
Don't lose her in Solon
Moon over Parma tonight

The fact that Drew Carey is Northeast Ohio's ambassador AND one of the biggest soccer fans in America should be helpful in getting the franchise up here. I know he's currently a Galaxy fan, but I think he's said in the past he'd love to see a franchise in Northeast Ohio (minority owner perhaps?)

BTW, Bill, I think the version the Drew Carey Show was the remake of Cleveland Rocks by the Presidents of the United States of America.

I saw a later-season rerun a few weeks ago that surprised me with a new verse to Moon over Parma which referred to Eastlake and other municipalities that I don't recall hearing in the original version.

Moon over Parma bring my love to me tonight.
Guide her to Eastlake, underneath your silvery light.
We met in Ashtabula, she was doing the hula.
I landed her in my radishes and pledged my love that night.

Moon over Parma, won’t you bring my love to me?
Shine on the freeway and guide her AMC.
Get her past those radar Mounties, bring her to Lake County, Moon over Parma, tonight.

Moon over Parma shine on I-271. We can get together in the warm light of the sun.
I’m askin’ you don’t fail. Get her safely past Linndale,
I can’t go to Parma cause my Edsel will not run.
Moon over Parma, where those pink flamingos stand.
I need her kisses and the soft touch of her hand.
We’re goin bowlin, so don’t lose her in Solon.
Moon over Parma, tonight. I said tonight.

That's the ticket, Bill.

I look forward to seeing your pictures of the proposed stadium location.

So are they saying that the SSS is proposed to be on the SW corner of Rt. 8 and Twinsburg Road -- south of the repo auction lot and north of the Boston Hills Country Club?

BTW, Google Maps has beautiful satellite photos of the area. I can't figure out how to post a link, but just type in Macedonia, OH and scroll down slightly and zoom in and click on "hybrid."

Can someone please explain how to post pics on here if you don't have an URL for the pics?

I have satellite pics of the area from GoogleEarth...

When i post them, perhaps Bill can put a square or something around the specific part where the stadium is supposed to be located... then i can put a real close up satellite view of the location

Thanks.

They told me up there that it was the Northeast Corner. There's a big garden center on the corner and this creek runs behind it.

If someone can link to the satellite photo (I found it but couldn't make a link work) you'll see a subdivision on the Northwest Corner, Hidden Lake or something. Due South of that is the Auto Auction place.

Across Rt 8 from the auction is an auto junkyard. North of that, across E. Twinsburg Rd., is the site they all pointed out to me. There's a Ryan Homes subdivision on the East edge of the site.

The one old guy who seemed to know everything (always dangerous but he seemed credible) said they were going to run a North-South road about 1/2 mile east of Rt 8, intersecting E Twinsburg and connecting with Hines Rd to the south and whatever the east-west road to the north is.

That road would be the main access to the whole project.
