A couple of my friends can drink scotch and whiskey casually but it's something I can never seem to do. G&T is the only thing I can sip and enjoy. I think it is really an acquired taste. I think it might be best as well to start out with a really ************ hard alcohol and just tough it out. Once you can handle that stuff, when you move onto real stuff it will be like candy.

Whiskey is ok with me, but I do prefer G&T. I drank alot of those over the past summer with my roomates on our balcony, it's a great drink when made right. I'm a big fan of Bombay Sapphire, though a college student's budget isn't really enough to indulge in that often.

Alright so I created a nice little display of all of the different beers I've drank since January. The different beers are as follows: Stella Artois, Heineken, Molson Canadian, Coors Light, Rickards Red, Alexander Keith's(my personal favorite beer), and Sleeman Honey Brown Ale. All of those beers I've bought in at least a 12 pack and that's only since January...I'm quite proud of that fact :D. I've drank multiple other beers as well, but the one's I have on display are only the one's I've drank since January.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what beer I can add to my collection?

I cannot explain it Striker. I went from only drinking beer to only drinking straight spirits for a while. Never had a problem with it, particularly when whiskey is involved. I guess my nationality helps. One thing I will say is that I don't feel drunk when doing it but eventually it reaches a point when it suddenly all hits me. That's when I start getting water. :(

Whiskey & coke is quite easy to get down. I've been a big vodka & red bull/lemonade/coke drinker since my days of underage drinking in fields (to be 13/14/15 again!) but it's been effecting my memory of nights out too much lately. Had a complete blackout two weeks ago after a mates 21st (turns out I was in working order for the entire night, but for all I knew the next morning, I might have had to be carried home the night before - worrying stuff).

Been having a few beer night since. Erdinger, Hooegarden (sp?) and Budvar are my faves, MGD in places without imports.

Blacking out is cool. At any point, you could wake up in your bed.

Once you can handle that stuff, when you move onto real stuff it will be like candy.Start with rum or gin rather than whiskey. Do small shots of rum or gin followed by soda chasers: coke or 7up respectively. You experience the taste a bit, but dull it with the soda. Gradually, slow down how quickly you take your shot and take it in 2 or 3 gulps, and, at the same time, delay your soda chaser -- eventually, you're sipping like a pro. Start with those milder alcohols, then move to scotch or tequila or whatever. Also, try different alcohols -- I drank alot of whiskey back in the day but never "liked" it -- however, I found out later than I really love the taste of rum.

Yeah, that's been my route on a few occasions. I was in a club last Friday which is usually full of Polish (which made for an absolutely animal night as a lot of French over for the rugby ( ) were there too). After the guts of a litre of vodka some random French guys came up and offered my this drink they had with them in a squeezable flask. After one of them downed some I gave it a go... two proper, full mouths of the stuff. Turns out it was Fire Water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_water).

Amazingly, I was up, out of bed and showered by 11 the next morning with no memory loss, no hangover, and after fixing a boiled egg, toast and Crunchy Nut cornflakes (and of course coffee), no growling stomach. It was the most amazing hangover-dodge ever, seeing as how I always get BAD hangovers and have done since my 118th birthday (never did before then though; odd...)

Sounds like that "special" Costa Rican vodka I had down there. Place was run by an American ex-pat, but he was definitely serving some under the table shit... didn't even charge us actually because that would've been illegal. Pretty sure it was everclear hopped up with something, but I wasn't exactly in a state to discern what that was.

I used to only drink vodka but recently have been enjoying tequila scotch and whisky. When it comes to tequila you need to make sure you are drinking 100% agave since that is the only real tequila and anything else has shit mixed in for flavor and color, which is what gives you those nasty hangovers and makes you puke.

As far as scotch and whisky go I'm a bit of a snob so I won't get to far into that but I'll say my everyday scotch is Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks. My favorite thing to drink but can only afford to do so on occasion is Midleton's Irish Whiskey. First tried it at the Jameson "factory" in Dublin and think it is one of the greatest things ever. I wish quality liquor wasn't so expensive.:(

Does the quality/expense of the licquor make alot of difference on the taste? This questions goes for all different types of liquor.

Not necessarily expense, since expensive doesn't always equal good. But when you drink a "premium" or higher quality drink especially in things like whiskey, scotch, and tequila it is an overall different animal then the mass produced shit like Cuervo or Jack Daniels, or Dewars.

Well what are some of the choice brands for you old folks when it comes to different types of liquor for indulging in (not just for shlagging)

Tequila is probably the most poisonous drink in my book. Nothing, from vodka to gin to whiskey, gives me hangovers like those from tequila.

If we're talking about quality whiskey...anyone here drink Tullamore Dew? That is one of the better whiskeys I've ever had.

I cannot say that I know my scotchs, whiskeys, etc. When I drink the hard stuff it's always the cheaper stuff. Jack Daniel's, Prince Igor Vodka (shit is awful), and that kind of stuff. I really really like Jack and Coke though. Vodka Tonic is a good drink as well.

Oh btw, only 5 months until I'm legal!!!!:D It's sooooo far away.
