i started a thread for the tourney, with an [R] in the title. i realize that people probably do not tape these games, but let's keep the talk about the tourney, the games, and the results, in there, as to not blow it for anyone!

I'm not a fan of Dickie V either. When it comes to college sports icons, I much prefer Keith Jackson.

NUCKA Since its invention in 1891, it has developed to become a truly international (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global) sport. Many people play basketball all over the world still today. Organized league play originated in the YMCA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YMCA); early leagues were formed in colleges. Basketball eventually became a professional (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_sports) sport. Even though it was originally a North American sport, it quickly spread internationally and outstanding players and teams are found today all over the world.
Basketball is primarily an indoor sport, played in (the court (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_court)). Points are scored for passing the ball through the basket from above (shooting); the team with more points at the end of the game wins. The ball can be advanced on the court by bouncing it (dribbling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dribbling)) or passing it between teammates. Disruptive physical contact (fouls) is not permitted and there are restrictions on how the ball can be handled (violations).
Through time, basketball has developed to involve common techniques of shooting, passing and dribbling, as well as players' positions, and offensive and defensive structures. While competitive basketball is carefully regulated, variations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variations_of_basketball) have developed for casual play. Basketball is also a popular spectator sport.
Basketball History
Interestingly, while the YMCA was responsible for initially developing and spreading the game, within a decade, it discouraged the new sport, as rough play and rowdy crowds began to detract from the YMCA's primary mission. Other amateur sports clubs, colleges, and professional clubs quickly filled the void. In the years before World War I, the Amateur Athletic Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amateur_Athletic_Union) and the Intercollegiate Athletic Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercollegiate_Athletic_Association) (forerunner of the NCAA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA)) vied for control over the rules for the game.
Basketball was originally played with a soccer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer) ball. The first balls made specially for basketball were brown, and it was only in the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_D._%22Tony%22_Hinkle), searching for a ball that would be more visible to players and spectators alike, introduced the orange ball that is now in common use.

OK smartass, I understand the game of basketball. ;)

I just don't follow it nor am I very interested in it. Thanks for wanting to include me in the picks, but I just don't have too much interest and know that I have almost zero chance of seeing the $10's. BTW, I need to save my money for when you start drinking on my tab!

That's just it. I need to save money now because the drinking will start once we arrive in Chicago! BTW, are you coming out for the shennanigans? It is going to be a lot of fun and I think some of the fellas have found cheap flights from your general area.
