And they'll get it right back once you start driving.

In all seriousness though, I'm sick of people bitching about the price of gas. Oh no, the price is so high, its going to cost them an extra 15 bucks this week. They might not be able to get that $4 Starbucks nonfat mochafrappuwhothehellcares every morning because they have to fill up their maga-super-XL SUV which can tow a freakin' house.

But that's for another thread.

Let me preface this by saying I like and respect you...

But that is absolutely ********ing bullshit.. I buy a $1.40 coffee each morning and then drive my 28 miles to work... Today to fill my tank cost me $63.75 I don't drive an SUV....With the amount i drive it will cost me much much more than $15 a week..

I don't know about Illinois but here in NY it costs $3.25 a gallon for regular...

I won't even touch the gas fiasco because this is supposed to be the happiness thread. I will say that I live in Los Angeles, and I teeter very much towards what Jayro said than what Achtung is saying. Also of note, I don't drink coffee, at least not everyday, and I've never been to a Starbucks.

double-double

Where I'm from, this is what is known as a Double-double. And yes, they can make me very happy.

P.S. Has anyone here ever had an In-n-Out burger? They've got to be some of the tastiest burgers in the world. I recommend them to anyone who ever comes out to the west side.

On the whole coffee/happiness thing: a New Orleans PJ's coffee place just opened down the street from me. I rarely drink coffee due to expense (as duly noted by Achtung) and the fact that caffiene gives me freaky mental jitters -- but PJs is something special. Apparently they're franchising now, so I hope this one is as good as the real thing. We'll see. Mmmmm, PJs mocha. :D

Aww man, you just know how to make me happy don't you? And considering I could walk to the In-N-Out next to my house, I'd say it's a safe bet I've been there once or twice. ;) Kobe Bryant also goes with his family to the one next to my school (it's the closest one to his house), met him and his wife a couple times there in line.

Actually, funny story. My cousin in Lebanon made me FedEx him a Double-Double overnight, he was suffering from massive In-N-Out withdrawl after his trip stateside. He even paid me the $40 it took to get it out to him in two days. Wrapped it massively in tinfoil and bubble wrap, then boxed it so that they wouldn't figure out that I was mailing food overseas (a major no-no).

I'm always trying to find ways to reduce driving though, and I consider myself a car person who would love to be on the open road driving 75 mph all day long. But its just not economically reasonable to me.

Obviously some people have to drive a lot for work and stuff, yourself included, and that isn't a problem. But I see way too many people being totally wasteful about driving in general, either making more trips than necessary, buying larger cars than they need, or whatever. Is that everyone? Of course not. But its more than necessary.

Not to sound like some tree-hugging hippie, because frankly I can't stand those people, but if we don't do a better job of reducing consumption, fuel prices will be the least of our worries.

By the way, to clarify, when I said $15/week I meant over what we used to pay when gas was ~$2.10 or so back before Katrina (its around $2.95 here now, more in the city) but again there are a lot of factors involved. Assuming the average person drives 15k miles a year, or roughly 300 miles/week. But like I said, if your job or whatever requires more, your numbers will be way different.

I certainly wasn't trying to offend anyone in here, especially if you're genuinely financially affected by gas prices as well as inflation in general. I just think we're too damn wasteful and whiny sometimes as a society... probably goes for me too at times.

Over here, last time I checked it was about €1.10 per LITRE. PER. LITRE. Of course, I might be off by a bit since I don't drive. You want to know why? For me - or any other male under the age of about 26 - to get insured on a 1.2 LITRE engine would cost a good £2,000 minimum. to get insured on anything worth drivign would cost closer to £4,000. Be happy that you don't live in the most expensive country in Europe, with a cartel for car insurance. Every time I've been to the States and hear people complain about petrol costs I do get a good laugh.

Double-double w/ lettuce only. I like to taste the meat. And of course, have to get animal-style fries. Like ambrosia from the gods.

Yeah I was back there last week and it was about 1.10-1.15. Of course it's been so long since I've used litres thing and also throw in the Euro-Dollar exchange rate. So when I got home on Saturday, I calculated it.
€1.15 per litre=$5.30 per gallon

So paying over $3 a gallon is not as bad as paying over $5 in Ireland.

You beat me to the comoparison... But the thing that really gets me is that we are catching up to the costs in Europe and quickly with no reason for it and no real end in sight.

Not to argue with this statement but I would figure France, and England (if your counting them) would be more expensive then Ireland... TBH when I was there last April I didn't find things all that expensive but then again I'm a NYer so we're used to being robbed for things...;)

For my commute, I'm forced to pay $76/month! Outrageous. Door to door in 30 minutes.

Actually, I'm posting here because I don't have to drive and can take the subway to work. :) (Very different story when I lived in Atlanta, a Los Angeles wannabe, with a different underclass.)

This is the Happy thread guys!

That said, what used to be the cheapest in the country (I remember before I drove when we had 1.25$ and I went on vacation to Cali where they paid almost  $2.00 and that was expensive. I'm sure you old-timers remember even further back in your driving days;)), is now $2.95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What in the hell is gas doing this high. Where I live, there isn't a subway system in any direction for maybe 500 miles! There is no way people here can live without cars and its getting ********ing ridiculous. I don't care if its not Bush's fault. It is his fault in my eyes. Its also every president before him's fault ********ing idiots don't worry about gas, lets just pump more. What I want to know, if the 'gas is going to last for at least 10 more years' why is it so ********ing expensive. Greedy bastards in those hoarding countries is what it is. In a country that is built for cars and has no public transport for the most part, we should not be paying so much for what runs this ********ing country.
