Still, Lalas insists he isn't all corporate these days.
"Just because I'm wearing a suit and tie doesn't mean I'm wearing underwear," he said, telling everyone more than they needed to know.
 well, glad I already digested lunch ;)

Thanx again for collecting these things!

The fact that a papers in Chicago and San Diego did a story on Red Bull tells you this was a good move. They damn sure never did random stories on the MetroStars.

The bottom line is that because this is a unique occurance in American sports and because RB, the drink not the team, is trendy, this will create a lot of mainstream buzz about it that it wouldn't otherwise get. Fact is that this is the biggest news, and most coverage, MLS has gotten in years that didn't involve Freddy Adu.

Too uncanny to be a coincidence.

St. John's High School incident?

I think the reference predates that by a bit. (Think Shakespeare) ;)

Sure it was a good move for Red Bull. But just because you got some press doesn't make it a worthwhile or good thing.

Guevara being crippled by a towel was all over SportsCenter. Same for Onstad's legendary flub. Those didn't exactly make the league look good.

MLS is getting press for allowing Red Bull to buy out a team name specifically because it is offensive.

Just came across this gem.

What's in a Name? - North Jersey - The Record (http://www.bergen.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjczN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXkzOTcmZmdiZWw3Zjd2cWVlRUV5eTY4OTcxMTgmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXkxNA)

This was my response to the editor:

Has anyone here actually seen a football game? The fact that there is no team called the Vegas Viagras or the Milwaukee Miller Lites is really just an issue of semantics. At least the owner of Red Bull New York (Mr. Mateschitz) genuinely cares for the game and will do what it takes to improve the team and make the fans happy (Red Bull are providing free bus transportation to Washington and free tickets for fans to see the season opener against rival D.C. United).

And, by the way, the Milwaukee Brewers actually do play in Miller Park.
