Just a place to put down all types of ideas for Cleveland, including pictures. So here's my vote for now:

Sharp.

Anyone care to whip something up with the Orange/Whatever color scheme. The above looks a little to Black/Gold.

Very nice.....

I've followed your Houston, Milwaukee, etc work and you always do an excellent job.

I'd be very curious, as the above poster, to see an orange mockup...maybe as the Bulldogs (w/ Brown?)...
or a Lakers suggestion in the other thread (ManCity Blue w/ Orange, Maroon, or Purple accents?)....
and even a Maroon/Grey Stokers reference.

Mock not my clearly sub-par Microsoft Paint artisticness. OK, mock it, you heartless bastards. I never liked you anyhow.

Anyhoo, here's a crest idea I came up with during a slow hour at work. The three sections represent the vibrance of the west-side (orange), the natural beauty of the east-side (forest green), and the industrial south (grey), which includes the Arkon-Canton area. The blue across the middle is the path of the Cuyahoga River as it flows through the downtown area of Cleveland. Yes, I know the river hasn't been blue since the 1500s. The soccer ball is beacause it's not a baseball team.

http://users.adelphia.net/~kneisel/shield.JPG

The area below the crest is where the team name, or initials, would go. I'm not doing that in Paint. I might mock up a kit, but I promise it will look like a 2nd-grader drew it. Maybe I'll just have my 2nd grade son do it.

I think the crest works well with my favorite two names for the team, Crooked River, or Forest City. I tend to think of them of them as traditional names, not euro-snobbery. Besides, there's a minor league team here called the Captains, and you can't have the Force unless you've got a guy named Kai or Hector on the team.

I'm too late for the poll on this, but I think the team shouldn't necessarily be know as just "Cleveland," especially considering the likely stadium location is northern Summit County.

For that reason, I vote Northcoast United as the team name. For those who say, but what about "DC United" what about them?

As for the color scheme (I wish I knew of a site where the Admirals mockup was made), MLS already has too much black, two much red and too much blue in its current kit schemes. The Admirals mock up could be mistaken for crew shirts from afar.

Let's get original for MLS: Brown and Silver in the style of Newcastle United.
I will I could provide a visual aid for this.

I understand where you are coming from, but I would be shocked if the team is called something other than Cleveland.

1. The stadium is still in the greater Cleveland metro area.
2. Even Akron itself is openly part of the Cleveland sports market.
3. The Coliseum was even further from Cleveland, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Force, Cleveland Crunch, Cleveland Crusaders, Cleveland Barons, Cleveland Lumberjacks etc all played there.
4. For a league trying to establish its national identity, there is no way MLS is going to bypass the "major league" identity that the name Cleveland represents. That's an NFL name. An MLB name. An NBA name.
5. The stadium is 22 miles from Cleveland and 18 miles from Akron. Unless it was built in downtown Akron, I can't see the team being called anything but Cleveland.

I have no objection to calling the team North Coast or Forest City.....but the reality of the situation is that it is impractical. Cleveland is the major league brand name for that sports market. Akronites already staunchly support teams named Cleveland....the good thing is that this one will be located 50% closer than a trip the lakefront.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but in the big picture, it's impractical. I wouldn't be holding my breath for North Coast, Forest City, or Crooked River.

It'll most likely be Cleveland (Something.)

All valid points, Sirk. I guess I'm thinking terms of trying to tie in the whole NEO community. Obviously, the MLS brass probably would argue for Cleveland in the team name, for the reason's you just stated above.

Your right that Akron is staunchly pro-Cleveland in most respects, although there's still too much black and gold around town for my liking (And I'm not talking Crew black and gold, I'm talking that OTHER black and gold team - or more appropriately soot and p*ss, as I've heard some browns fans refer to it.)

It it going to be named Cleveland, I vote Cleveland Ironmen as the name. It acknowles the city's heritage and provides an easy platform for Black Sabbath during team introductions :D

Just to be clear, I don't know how the Admirals mock ups appear on others screens, but they are definitely supposed to be navy blue and yellow. Basically, I didn't think it would look right to have a team called the Admirals and then do brown and orange, or something like that.

I really enjoy doing the mock kits and badges, I'm working with brown and orange, Coach Dad's idea, and the brown and silver and hope to post all three ideas sometime this week.

At work it looks Black/Gold to me.

At home it definitely looks navy blue - looks nice.

What about green and white kit like Celtic?
Cleveland is Forest City, right?
"Cleveland Celtic"?

"Cleveland Celtic"?

Being of German herritage I find this name offensive. I feel it undermines the contribution the Germans (as well as other non-Irish ethnicities) have made to the city of Cleveland. As a matter of fact if this were to become the name, I would have to boycott the team and encourage others to do so as well until we can get this injustice fixed. I'll even get the media involved.

What? It's already been done?

(Joking aside it's an interesting idea. You could go with either Cleveland Celtics for the traditional American crowd or just Celtics for the Eurocentric crowd.)

I still like the original Admirals idea here, but this I think is awesome as well. It's a bit generic, just Cleveland Soccer Club. What I think is a must in all jersey designs though is it must offer some element that may become tradition for a club. So I tried to do that here with the chest stripe. It's different from what else is in the MLS, plus the colors would really set it apart, even if Houston comes out with an orange kit.

The brown and orange looks SWEET!!!!!!

Lose the grey though....orange numbers. And on the brown jerseys, make the jersey outlines orange instead of grey.

Those are BADASS. Awesome work!!!!

Somewhat taken from Coach Dad's idea, although I left out the gray. Didn't really put a team name on this either, that could be filled in later.

Except for the fact that there already is an organization called Cleveland Soccer Club (generally just called CSC) it's just fine. But knowing them, they'd want money for the name and it's not worth it.

One hopeful sign though is that most of the really stupid, addlebrained foreign-connected "soccer names" - like "Real" and "Dynamo" and now "Inter" are already taken, so maybe the Cleveland choice won't end up sounding like Euro wannabes.
