Maybe i shouldnt have posted a thread on this, but im glad to know that Arsene's was somewhat right in sellling him when he should.
Transfer guru Moggi said: "It is not true to say Patrick is having a difficult period, but that fact is we were expecting him to score.
"Because he is a champion who can give something more to the team, he has to take other responsibilities - he has to score. He knows that an average Vieira is not enough."

Didn't he score all those near the beginning of the season though ?
I can't really believe they bought him expecting him to get a hatful, that's not really his role...

Maybe its his role at Juve. I mean at Arsenal, we didnt need him to be the attacker, he did something different here. But if you think about it, they dont have that much of an attack. And if they expect him to score goals, 4 isnt alot. Some CB's have 4.

he scored some vital goals for us though...
"bought him to score goals?"
never thought of paddy as a goalscoring midfielder.

There is no way Paddy is a goal scoring midfielder. If Juve brought him for that then they were stupid. I'm also fed up with people saying we shouldn't have got rid of Vieira. Its happened now and there is nothing that can be done about. We're moving on from that now and at the moment I think we are doing pretty well without him. Hell we are in the Champions League quarter final without him and if we beat Juve we will have gone further in the Champions League than him then what will you guys be saying.
Let's stop dwelling on the past and look into the future with the team we've got now. Players come and players go. It's part and parcel of football.

if he starts getting flack for not scoring enough goals it wont be long before he starts regretting his move. but thats the gamble u take when u leave the 'comfort zone'

GM, from almost everything ive read, vieira was sold by wenger to juventus. he didnt want to leave, and only agreed to the move after not being wanted by the arsenal.

Yes, im starting to believe this more and more now as its showing what Wenger's plan is. Before i thought that Vieira left because of how much we were suffering without him i didnt think it was Wenger's call. But now we're donig so well and we dont even have a starting 11 in there. Imagin when we do!

I've said it before and said it again players come and players go. I'm the first to admit that I thought the team would collapse when we lost Ian Wright and Anelka but look who we replaced both players with so now even if someone leaves I always believe now there is a replacement just as good an if not better than the player being sold.
The problem with the Vieira sale not that there really was one was we didn't replace him with someone straight away which was a mistake. It might have been down to the fact that Wenger thought he had enough players in the team to cover the Vieira sale but he was wrong which is why he went out and brought Diaby in the January Transfer Window that is our new Vieira.
So the Vieira sale is in the past now lets stop talking about it and move on its happened and there is nothing that can be done about it. Diaby is our new holding midfielder and he is one of the faces of the future Arsenal along with RVP, JAR, FF, AC (I hope) and anyone else you can all think of.

Well said.
I, for one, am glad I'm not hearing the old "Arsneal sold PV4 and they suck now!!!!!!" comments.
God, that got old after five minutes. All arm chair nonsense from snot nosed kids who got a hold of an issue of Four Four Two and retyped artciles as if they wrote it.

Vieira who? Honestly i love the guy but i hope Cesc sticks it to him cause frankly he plays for a different team now and we are playing that team and its either us or them.

So perhaps they'll be coming after Henry this summer?
I've noticed that Vieira less involved in plays at Juventus than at the beginning of the season.Maybe it's only the matches I've seen-I don't follow Italian football that much-but it often looks like Emerson is running the entire midfield without letting Vieira touch the ball.As for the upcoming matches,we'll see who the choker for us was in the last few seasons-no offense to Vieira but in my opinion,he was more sensitive to pressure than any other player.

If you read, or have read, PV4's autobiography, he puts the blame on the club not necessarily saying that they didn't want him, but that he could make the decision once the offer was in. If you know that someone isn't fighting "tooth and nail" to keep you, then maybe you can see the writing on the wall. The same applies in any job. However all this was coming from David Dein, who I am sure, would have been advised, or in consultation with AW.
Maybe it was done this way so the Club could save face with the fans in saying that we didn't sell him, although, if PV4's account is correct, they could have kept him. It sounds like "You better jump before you're pushed".

everyone is happy now but when we hit another bad bit of form or we see our less beautiful game we will see the vieira mongerers out again

Well my belief for our downfall this season is the sale of vieira. All of our problems can be linked this is in many ways. However i think now we have found our feet again and any more poor form from here on out can be attributed to our current players.

I think it's half the team being unfit. Not that Vieira being sold had no effect, because it did, but it wasn't the whole picture.
I'd like to see Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool maintain the table position they are in with the same sort of injuries Arsenal have suffered.
