Over the time I've become more interested in ornithology and birdwatching. I'm always on the outdoors with my binoculars watching the birds of the atlantic forest in Rio de Janeiro and other places that I travel. I've heard that Peru is the 2nd country of the world in birds diversity and there's a decent structure for birdwatchind tourism there. What do you know about it? Do you guys have pics of the native birds from your country?

Sup, Miggy.
I hear the birdwatching tourism is growing in Peru, but sadly as in my country, Peruvians like me don't appreciate the birds. You going to Peru?

Here too. If not Biology students like me, the only people interested in birdwatching are the retired and tourists.
I have no plans to visit Peru in the near future. I'm still focused in exploring my own country first. But if Peru is so rich in bird wildlife it would probably be one of my first destinies outside Brazil.

not all of them are retired  . I dont know too much about variety of birds in Peru but I have seen documentaries on how bird poaching is a problem in both Peru and Brasil... its sad that people buy birds to make their house look pretty, personally I prefer watching them out in the wild.

News for me as well, but I would assume Amazon birds? Either way, I would love to photograph them :)

Theres a graduate student from Ecuador at my school that is studying ecology. He tracks birds in South America looking for the progression of the Avian flu virus.
I'm not sure what birds he's catching but I'll find out. He plays soccer every once in a while at my pickup game, but he's not that good (figures). But he has a Peruvian girlfriend. poota

The Paracas reservation gets huge amounts of birds.
It's really awesome. I remember that reporter made all these documentaries about different reservations and regions of Peru. Awesome vids.

That reminds me...
In Peru, there are these "bird islands" that my grandpa used visit.
He was a captain de travesia (merchant marines) and took his crew out to these islands to collect the bird shit. That shit is worth a ton of money to some people.
