Kicker magazine is reporting that Sebastian Deisler has been hurt in training. It's a right knee injury of some sort. The injury has not been diagnosed yet and they do not know how serious it is at this time.

good if we're looking for a win, bad if we're looking for experience.

Is it a recurrence of his old knee injury?
FWIW, Deisler got a "6" vs. Italy ... he was just awful.
PS. IMO, Schweinsteiger is a far superior player on the right anyway. According to the article, the extent of the damage isn't known yet.

Predictable player.
Predictable moves and not unexpected injury.

calling someone who has had a serious struggle with depression a nut does not need neg rep- it speaks for itself.

Wrong. Piggy is more natural on the left and even playing LB for a couple games. He has been erratic all season and has not really displaced Ze Roberto from starting on the left. Deisler is a much better RM.

Deisler is a much better RM. No way. Basti's game is naturally dependent on turning inwards and driving toward the net. He's got a prototypical right-winger skill, somewhat similar to Littbarski's.
And he's right-footed.
As the only skilled dribbler on the German roster, it behooves him to get away from Magath.
Now, if I were Klinsmann, I'd try Asamoah on the left flank. He may be right footed also but his game is speed and less dependent on staying on the touchline. Putting him and Piggy on opposite sides would at least force the opposition to respect Germany's wide play.
Against Italy, Klinsi and Löwe had Deisler on the right and Schneider on the left and neither one of them was capable of stretching the Italian defense or beating his man off the dribble.
The design was to play for the cross into the box to Klose and Podolski who were defended by shorter Nesta and Cannavaro but the German wing play was so timid, rarely a German forward threatened Buffon off the cross or the pass.
The second option would a Box midfield with Ballack center-left and Schweini center-right. But this depends on the wing-backs covering flanks offensively and Friedrich has no pace on the right. Maybe Lahm-Jensen pair works better. Or maybe Owomoyela has the flank pace that the Germans need. Or even Schultz.

Deisler is one of those players who when he's 28 people will still be saying, 'Man, he's got a lot of potential.'

Even though Milan outclassed Bayern Munich in that CL game, I thought Schweinsteiger (SP?) was impressive. Sorry for any player from a World-Cup-bound team getting injured at this time of year, though.

Klinsmann's obsession with Deisler has been confusing for many people in Germany. Based on his performances this season he shouldn't even have gotten nominated but instead he started most of the matches for Germany (while sitting on the bench for Bayern). Instead of Deisler this guy should be in the starting lineup:

I have to agree with Swedust. Schweinsteiger was impressive in game against Milan. He could have scored second goal for Bayern. Schweinsteiger is really big talent.

He's had a knee of glass since about 2001 (I think that one was an ACL tear, and I guess you never fully recover from that). Fantastically talented but about as durable as your crystal stemware in the china cabinet. Remind anyone of John O'Brien?
The pre-injury Deisler that used to play for Hertha was definitely the best attacking midfielder I've ever seen play live in person with my own eyes (not counting watching Ronaldinho or Zidane or Roberto Baggio etc on TV). Since then he's never impressed me nearly as much.

Don't the Germans have any quick guys that can dribble left?
