No mention of Berhalter in the laundry list of central defenders. Likely just an oversight.

I hope not... hehehe :D

Sorry, I guess it would hurt my theory if mancrush Balboa doesn't like him.

Balboaisms and I don't get along.

i wish he would stay with writing instead of announcing, at least the article has an end to it unlike his banter during a game.

"You're also looking for good team chemistry." "You want guys who will fit in and won't disrupt things. You can't have a superstar that is going to be disruptive. Look, people, he is even dumber in person....

Celo was a player who, when he was on the field for the USMNT, always gave me confidence. He never seemed to be rattled, and could step up in inspiring ways. His verbal communication skills are the exact opposite.

"As a player you have to play well, period. If you're a forward you want goals and assists. As a midfielder you want crosses, you want offensive maneuvers the coach can remember. As a defender, you don't want to get beat."

Oh, really, Einstein?*

Celo, Celo, Celo: what you did in the USA kit will always be remembered but this crap can't be forgotten soon enough.

*The frustrating part is I know that he knows more about the game than I ever will. Why can't he share that knowledge instead of this U8 coach stuff?

Because, cruel as this is and reluctant as I am to say it, he is illiterate. Or, at the very least, he gives that impression. That a producer does not insist that he complete his thoughts, speak more clearly, and limit boring anecdotes is just a measure of the cluelessness with which ESPN approaches the sport.

When he's on a roll he sounds like the older sister of my best friend after she's had a mere two glasses of Chardonnay. Talk about the Jessie Jackson School of Vowel Elimination. Marone.

And, then there's Christian Miles...

Ever noticed that there's nary an American soccer pundit (kind of an oxymoron, sadly, at this stage) that ever says ANYTHING much above this level? "The team that wins tonight is the team that creates the better chances and finishes well" plus maybe a "the defenders will have to make sure they contain ______" is about as intelligent an analysis we'll ever hear or read in the foreseeable future.

P.S. And you're right. They DO know more than this, but for some reason nobody ever wants to really talk hardcore soccer analysis in any sort of American media. I can understand they think that the hardcore stuff is just too much for the neophyte US fan on TV, but soccer-specific websites? Who but us follows that stuff? Why not just SAY something??

If anyone truly listened to Chris Sullivan he really does offer great insight. He mentions thing we can't see on screen.
Wingers switching sides, runs off ball, attacking strategy, defending positioning, overall game tactics. Give him a try and he doesn't rely on your master of the obvious points. His voice isn't great but his insight often is.

The problem is that he's an affected weirdo who sounds like he did eight hits of four-way five years ago and is still struggling to get back down to earth.

His Spanish is terrible, btw.

Is hardcore soccer analysis any more important? Really? Sport's analysis in general is painfully redundant.

i'd be surprised if he is able to tell you what's going on off screen

i thought he worked for fox soccer channel

which means he is calling games from the same feed we see on tv... meaning he isn't at the game and can't see anything more than the camera shot fsc is showing us
