On the hunt here folks, and very well may change from Comcast to Dish Network. I have already checked and I get all the essentials FSC, GolTV, CSN plus some more and 2 DVRs (one for each TV)and a slew of other channels for roughly 61 bucks a month. Comcast? almost 100....and that's with 1 DVR.
So I just wanted to know whoever has Dish Network how their service and reception stand up.

I know this doesn't answer your question, and you may not be able to get DirecTV, but if you can, you can subscribe to Setanta Sports. I watch Six Nations, Tri-Nations, and Super 14 rugby, live European WC qualifiers, live Champions League matches, live League Championship matches, etc.
All that for $12.95.
Between STS, FSC, GolTV, CSN, the ESPN family and the Golf Channel, who could ask for anything more?

Matt, the main difference to me between the two is that Dish has an Asian programming package and DirecTV doesn't. And DirecTV has XM digital audio and Dish has Sirius.
My landlord may wish to switch to Dish because it may have a package he wants, and I would piggyback on it one month every other year just to get Zee TV and the Champions' Trophy of field hockey.

Interesting. I didn't know that.
I don't spend any time listening to the digital audio channels, so that's a wash for me.
I'm about to take the HD plunge, and am still debating the choice between Comcast and DirecTV. I'm in no rush, but I must have everything settled and installed (and understood) before the World Cup begins.
Edit: Oh yeah, the terrain around my house (tall trees everywhere) prevents me from getting Dish. The satellite is apparently closer to the horizon.

I had DishNetwork, but since I'm out of my house during renovations I have it on a $10 hold account for the moment. I think it's terrific, though that Setanta subscription sounds nice. I never had any reception problems in the 12 months that I was actively using it.
When I move back in to the house in late April/early May, I'm firing it back up.

I've had dish network for three years now, and I'm very happy with the service. SOOOOOOO much cheaper than TimeWarnerDigitalCable...

Took the HD plunge about 8 weeks ago. Comcast has been good, they even temporarily added Universal HD during the Winter Olympics (that's where NBC put the HD feeds for the various NBC cable channels). It would be nice if they added ESPN2-HD in time for the World Cup.

I have Dish and their service has been fine, no problems at all. reception has also been fine, maybe 1-2x/year it goes out for a minute or less. I'm about to upgrade to HD and their new receivers are reported to be very good.

I have Dish Network and for 60 bucks I'm getting more channels than I can handle.. Plus with Gol TV, ESPN (all of them + Deportes) and Fox Soccer Channel (both english and Spanish) I am as set as I can get...
I strongly recommend it.. and as far as that old comment "what about losing the signal when it rains, etc, etc?" It has to be a vicious thunderstorm for me to lose my signal and that has rarely happen in the last two years I've had it.

Thanks guys,
I just set up my order for it to be installed on Sunday.
Yeah the reception thing is really not an issue considering my digital cable gets poor reception because well Comcast is just shit.

Good move. I have had Dish for 8 years. Only problems I ever had were when I lived in Hawaii and I had to have two huge dishes to get FSW-FSC. I do wish they would add the Sentana option though. I really miss Rugby now that FSW is FSC and doesn't show it anymore.

Worst Installation Ever.
7 hours, used some of my tools, and I had to trouble shoot and run cable for the idiot. The reception is fantastic but I have some issues I am going to unload on their customer service today. Not a good start.
But I do dig the channels/cost/DVR/recption so it's not too bad.:D

They subcontract out their installations, so it's always a crapshoot. The guys who installed mine were great. For some reason they were from Philly!

Mine hated his job and spent most of the time explaining why he didn't have the right tools, and why he wanted to quit.
Either way I have a supervisor coming out this week who is to redo what I previously wanted done, inspect this guys work, and for free. so....all is well so far.
I gapsed when I saw my mothly bill then realized it was for 2 months...I really need to get more than 3 hours a sleep a night. So, besides MFL what does Galavision show? I remember last year sweating it because I didn't have it. Now I have it and only see MFL matches. Am I thinking Central American qualifiers?

Yeah right now is mostly that unfortunately. They will show C.A. tournaments and I'm sure will get their share of WC Matches. But as far as covering other leagues, nope, they don't.

Galavision fills in the gaps left by English Language channels and Univision in WC qualifying, so that's good.

I just added DISH to my house last week. I like it alot so far. I opted for the second upgrade that gave me FSC.
We had Adelphia in Stafford Co., VA before and they really suck. Our bill was in the $100's and they certainly have crap service for anything.
Back in our old house around three years ago I wanted to add a cable line for my computer and left my wife to supervise. Two Russian guys did the installation and actually hooked the cable line up next to my fireplace and into the center of my den. Everyone wants their computer next to the fireplace and in the middle of their den, right?
Wife said the cable-Ivans were eyeballing all my soccer gear and my rifle collection. The help desk guy in Sri Lanka was cool though and helped me out.

Pretty strange I ended my last post with the word Thieves. because....that's exactly what may cause all of us Dishnetwork owners some seirous headaches soon.
Tivo won it's case in Texas court against Echostar and as part of the ruling Dishnetwork has been ordered to cease building their DVR's AND to disable all their customers DVR's within 30 days. So if you like to record matches and watch them on your own time, unless a Federal Court approves this will no longer be an option for us Dishnetwork customers.

Press release from Dishnetwork (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/presskit/press/index.shtml)
I wonder how this will affect a mass exodus of customers who have recently signed contracts based on the idea they would have DVR technology?
