Despite the fact that Benfica has been showing very well in the CL this year, it seems that many clubs still discount them as an easy way to advance.

Many teams were wishing for the draw to go against Benfica for the quarter finals, yet maybe they hadnt seen the last 2 matches. Remember Benfica beat Liverpool 1-0 at home, and 2-0 in Anfield. Also remember that Liverpool, while not the greatest scorers, only conceded 1 goal during all of the group stages...and then conceded 3 against Benfica, two in their home field.

What will it take for Benfica to be respected as a world class club?

What will it take? More than a one-off season.

Still pissed off cause Benfica knocked out ManU?

I might remind you that Benfica have seen 7 champions league finals, 2 of them were wins.

Manchester United has seen 2 champions league finals. So who is more guilty of having one-off seasons?

Are you talking about regarding them as a world-class club or a world-class team? They're two very different things.

(What the hell does "world class" even mean in relation to clubs?)

A world class club.

Meaning a club that gets recognized because of the name, regardless of who is playing. A club that your girlfriends grandmother would say "Yeah, I have heard theyre good". A big club.

Examples: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal, AC Milan, Juventus, Ajax, etc...

Benfica have a storied history, more so than a lot of clubs. So do Nottingham Forest.

None of which has any bearing on this year's Champion's League. You're conflating two seperate ideas.

Benfica is a big name club, but one built on past achievements. If you wish to get to that level again and be considered amongst the elite clubs in the world, then you must do more both domestically and in Europe. Consistancy is the key and that is something you lack. Over the last 20 years, Porto have been the daddy.

Not at all and I probably know more about the history of Benfica than you do. However, to have the audacity to start this thread in the middle of a one-off season is pretty poor. Benfica is just like any club...bound to have its dry spells. However there are way too many people, including you, who laugh off Benfica because you dont know anything about them. Too many people were wishing to draw Benfica, without even knowing who the players on the team are. The reason is that the club doesn't carry the prestige of other clubs, despite having better acomplishments.

Which is why I am asking if this years Champions league results will change the way people view Benfica. We already know your viewpoint, but we also know you to be the Nicephoras of ManU supporters...so it doesnt really count much.
