Do you think BA will stick with the current formula of trying future WC prospects mixed with our youngest, or will he field the best team possible even with players doubtful for the next WC? I say bring out Reyna, McB, Sanneh, Friedel and all the boys. let's take it to france, brazil, and the rest.

Atleast bring in some decent defenders. What I've seen recently (USA vs. Argentina), the majority of it, should not be given a chance with the nats again.

Honestly, with the exception of Friedel, Pope, Sanneh, and O'Brien I think the guys on the field today WERE our "big guns". Reyna due to injury or burnout may never be back.

Barring injury problems I think the guys on the field today will be our players in the Gold and Confed cups.

Also, as far as today's defense was concerned, if you take into consideration that Convey and Victorine are experiments, Boca and Califf both had pretty solid games. Our problems were in the midfield folks.

Hopefully a healthy Wolff and a not fat but in shape Mathis for the tourneys. The midfield needs work too. I say Obrien and Donovan in the middle and beasley and Olsen on the outsides.

The Confederations Cup is a waste of our time. I am sick of MLS releasing these players to play overseas in meaningless tournaments. Will they never get a vacation? We should be giving them less games to play not this useless tournament against lightweights.

Is it still a waste of time if we go there and Beasley or Bocanegra, for example, plays great and MLS starts fielding million-dollar offers?

You may also have noticed that many of our players make a living too far away to come back for these little friendlies. Arena will surely use the tournament as a way to look at people like Cherundolo, Lewis, Gibbs, Onyewu, Barrett and Vanney. Joe Cannon possibly.

And whenever we play a team like Brazil, which we might at Confed Cup, it gets press at home. Don't you think that is important?

To address the topic of the thread, I think there will definitely be all the healthy big guns from Europe and those missing today for other reasons (like Wolff) in France this summer. If needed, even Earnie Stewart. We'll need them.

i agree that just bringing in Obrien, Sanneh, and Friedel would make a world of difference. I also think we need to see mcbride, as he is absolutely on fire right now. We should aim to win this tourney, and we will still give plenty of players great training opportunities.

How many keepers are you allowed to bring? If it is three, I could see BA bringing Friedel, Hanhemann, and Howard.

Playing in an international tournament, in Europe, against "lightweights" such as Brazil, Colombia, Cameroun, France and Turkey is going to be a complete waste of time.

We don't need any tournament games to prepare us for WCQ or the World Cup. Man, the people who decide this are effing stupid.

LOL Flan. Some people!

Let's turn this thread into a potential Confederations Cup roster thread--

M-Reyna-if healthy
M-JOB-lock
F-Casey-lock
M/D-Grover Gibson--highly probable
D-Vanney-lock
D-Cherundolo-lock
M/D-Lewis-lock
D-Onyewu-probable
GK-Keller-lock
GK-Friedel-lock
D-Berhalter-lock
D-Gibbs-probable
D-Sanneh-lock

I left McBride off since he'll be back with the Crew by then.
That's pretty much all of the higher profile Euro players that I know of. I expect Bruce to call them all up to ease the pressure on MLS. Don't forget that we also have the Gold Cup this summer.

As of this exact moment, here's my Confed. Cup roster. Subject to change without notice.

-----------------Friedel-----------------
Cherundolo---Pope---Bocanegra---O'Brien
---------------Mastroeni----------------
Olsen----------------------------Beasley
----------------Convey------------------
-----Donovan-----------McBride----------

On the bench I'd bring...

Howard
Keller
Mathis
Twellman
Lewis
Hejduk
Armas

What do you guys think of JOB at left back and Convey at AM ? (of course, I'm assuming that JOB is healthy come June...if not, I start Hejduk at LB and add Klein to the bench)

No Sanneh? The Bruce is probably going to want to win this tournament, so I think he'll try and pick a first choice squad as much as possible.

I love Convey at attacking mid.

I think that I must disagree, although Convey did look good versus Argentina today at times at AM, JOB is a lock as AM, look at how many goals he contributed on in the summer, just my opinion.....

I also remember that BA said he was going to take a very competitive side this summer, which means a lot of spots are up for grabs, just depends on who is palying well, who is injured and who continues to impress for the NATS.....

Also, had anyone heard anything about TV for either of these events??? Just curious...

Oliver Tse over at www.soccertv.com told me that Univision/Galavision had the rights currently for both Confed Cup and Gold Cup.

Rumor is "Uncle Phil" is trying to negotiate for english-language rights now.

I guess I was kind of put off by Sanneh during the whole West Brom trade affair. He did have a great WC though. I wonder how his back will be doing by then.

We just interviewed Brice Arena on World Soccer Weekly this morning and he mentioned some interesting things -

1. Reyna will not likely be selected for any of the tourneys this year.
2. He's calling up Steve Cherondulo
3. He doesn;t see the COnfederations Cup as that important.

You can listen to the interview yourself at www.worldsoccerweekly.com, there's a link on the front page.
