are you actually convinced he did this? I for one am not buying it, he's pulled other tricks like this before, he's just an arrogant show off, nothing to laud about.
24 on the other hand was great.
24 was great, but it was worth switching back and forth a few times during commercial breaks.
What exactly are you not buying? He was there for 9 days under water in the middle of the street and he tried to hold his breath live for 9 minutes under water. Everyone saw it. No trickery there.
I think he'll go for it again.

This guy grew up on street tricks and illusions, He's a very crafty guy when it comes to selling stunts like this, and to be honest, he didn't spend every minute of everyday totally inside the bubble. Also I don't buy that he actually held his breath for that long, something was up.

He didn't break the record, so someone clearly could hold the breath for a longer period. But I am not sure what possible trick could be used when you are under water without a mask in front of everyone?

he's an illusionist, every "stunt" or trick of his is somewhat an illusion. When he was suspended for 44 days without any food, he secretly fed nutrients and vitamins through his water, when his gf platformed herself to him at night, for a few minutes he slipped under a secret door that was covered up. I mean you can find revelations to his tricks on the net even, I personally think he didn't hold his breath to break the record to appeal more realistic, the real trick was "staying in the bubble" as it was when he was suspended in midair. This is his schtick, he's an entertainer this way.

I'm going to have to disagree about the water bit simply because if it that was an illusion then what is the point of selling yourself short and not grabbing the "record"?

He lasted 7:08 if im not mistaken. Either way it's still damn impressive.
Yup, I wish I could last that long, and I'm not talking about holding my breath. :o

Well, card illusions and street magic is one thing, but being underwater for over a week and try to hold your breath there is another. It's not a David Copperfield type magic - he really is pushing his body to the limits - maybe his gf gave him vitamins through the water in London - but he lost 50 pounds in 40 days. Also, how do you fake being inside a block of ice on the street? Did they have a heater inside? How do you fake standing on a 20 inch wide pillar for 35 hours without anything to hold on to?
I mean it's not really magic - with extensive training it can be done. All of his stunts. The World Record for holding breath is over 9 minutes, and after breathing pure oxygen, the world record is about 15 minutes. If it was an "illusion", surely he would've at least approached the 9-minute mark.

SirManc, I totally agree with you.
I can't effin stand Blaine. All of his tricks are exactly that, tricks. He's not a stuntman, he's an illusionist. Remember all those years ago when he had that special where he levitated right in front of people, and bit off quarters and made it whole again? Tricks!
The last few that he's done were publicity stunts, the ice, standing on the column in the park, and yes, the underwater stunt here. If he was a "real" magician, why not just get into a big tank of water with handcuffs and locks and shit and then get out of it before drowning. Screw the time limit, just get out and whoptie do!
Oh and people have asked why, if it was indeed a trick, did he not break the record? Easy. If he did break the record, Guinness would have to be there and check out everything, making sure that there was no trickery involved. He couldn't have that could he? NOOOOOOO!
Point is after all is said and done, he's a publicity whore. He sits in a bubble for 2 weeks and then finishes with a trick. Regardless of whether he failed or succeeded, he got rich off this, as did ABC and Lincoln Center. The only reason I tivo'd it (and only the last 20 mins) was cuz I was watching 24, and I was hoping he'd die, not neccessarily in that order. ;)
Jack would totally kick Blaine's ass. :D
Oh, and just realized it, David Blaine is the magician version of Tom Green, just as annoying and hopefully will lose a testicle and fade out of everyone's memory. :p

look man, I'm not an experts in illusions and ruses, therfore I can't explain every little thing, but you have to understand, this is his schtick, like every other "magician", none of it is real (sorry VR, neither this nor Santa) it's all staged very very carefully. And this is exactly what David Blaine has done.
