You left off ANTM... :D

I can't stand the rigged final decisions.

I haven't forgotten about you Kahlen, Joanie and Melrose.

I currently watch Battlestar Galactica (which has been the best show on tv for three years now) Lost (not because I like it but because I'm forcing myself to stick around til the end), 24 (which has gone down ever since season 3, this being the worst season), and Studio 60. Also I like what I've seen so far from Dexter.

I don't want to get into the Wire until I can see it from the beginning.

For comedies, I like The Office, South Park, Arrested Development (best ever, only second to Seinfeld) I sincerely hate everything else including Ugly Betty and How I met your Mother.

Rome was one that I wanted to get into but ended up missing an episode or two of the first season. I know the second season has already started, so I need to start DVR'ing them, hopefully they'll replay the first few, since I've missed those.

And to catch up, I joined NetFlix and will be getting season one first. By next week I'll be caught up, and can start on season 2.

"The Wire" stands alone at the top of all current TV shows. Any discussion of top shows can only start with the second best show on television.

The best new series on broadcast TV this season is "Ugly Betty."

Strongest sophomore series on broadcast TV is "How I Met Your Mother."

Best non-HBO pay cable series is "Dexter."

The Wire wins best show on TV and has since it's first season hands down.

I like How I Met Your Mother but it's went down hill for me since I found out that Neil Patrick Harris was gay. It just ruins his character for me.

Dexter's great because it's so sick and twisted.

I can't believe none of you are mentioning Heroes. That show kicks 24's ass up and down the street.

Watch Season 1 first. It's better that way... You will want to watch it from start to finish. It seriously is a must see series.. Every episode is excellent, and it pisses you off at the end of each hour, becuase you are wanting it to keep going, and you have to wait another week for the next one..

I'm not surprised that you don't like "Ugly Betty". After all, if you want to watch Ugly Betty, you can just stick your head out the window.

For me, "Ugly Betty" is one of a very limited number of shows that are pitch perfect from the start. That is, they know who they are and don't need time to figure it out. (Even the great "Seinfeld" needed a few episodes. "The Simpsons" wasn't truly brilliant until Season Three.) The characters on "Ugly Better" are interesting and lovable and you can't help but want good things to happen to Betty.

"How I Met Your Mother" doesn't break any new ground, really, but it has turned out to be a laugh out loud show this season. I enjoy meta-sitcoms like "Seinfeld", "South Park", "The Simpsons" and "Arrested Development" but sometimes I want a traditional sitcom. (Although the flashback structure of "How I Met Your Mother" is a meta-sitcom device.)

"Studio 60" has disappointed me more than any other new show this season. You just can't sacrifice entertainment in order to pursue your personal agenda. Entertain first. Be subversive, if you must rail. The Christmas episode was vintage Sorkin and I was hopeful. This latest arc has been disappointing. (I haven't yet seen Monday's episode.)

"Battlestar Glalactica" is on my radar for a DVD marathon. Its been universally praised and I do like science fiction.

When you start watching "The Wire" make sure you give it time. It takes a while to get a feel for the rhythms of the show as it isn't like anything else. I wasn't completely hooked until Episode 4 of Season 1.

I'm really enjoying "Heroes". The real test for that series is still to come as things are revealed, or not. Its not hard to walk the tightrope during the premier season as there is a lot of exposition. (See "Lost".) I just hope that I'm still psyched when we know more.

Aside: How can the TV thread be so hot right now and no sign of Achtung? Someone call around the Chicago-area emergency rooms.

Obviously the execs at HBO are ********ing clueless. They cancelled Rome and Deadwood in the same year. Seriously who makes decisions like that..

Yeah, they only signed a two season contract originally.. And from what I hear, each episode costs a lot to make.. They are speeding through the historical happenings this season, so as to finish it off right..

The Sopranos became played out 2 seasons ago. Any unimaginative asshole could make that show by portraying a bunch of stereotypical Jersey Guineas...

I'm just shocked he doesn't have more of them wearing Tachini outfits.

"Rome" and "Deadwood" are victims of poor ratings, combined with the expense. Only the near universal critical acclaim for "The Wire" has kept that on for four seasons with a fifth on the way.

Rome and Deadwood are both classic..I like The Wire, but I don't rate it as high as Deadwood, and definately not Rome.. I guess it just depends on what you like..

I read that Rome is the most expensive tv show to produce ever. I don't think it got great ratings last season, but it really feels like a lot of people are catching on to it this season.

Heroes has been a dissappintment for me. I was so psyched about this show because I'm a comic book geek - and that's probably why it's been so dissappointing for me as I expected something more innovating instead of very archetypical comic book stories. It's gotten more frustrating to watch as each episode only raised more questions and spent less time advancing the storyline. I also really didn't find any character likeable. I just stopped watching it.

I continue to watch Studio 60 because it's simply different than every other show on TV. Sorkin is still a great writer, and I just find the SNL- tv world fascinating, as I always fantasize about working there. No matter how dull an episode is, it has a laid out structure from beginning to end. No useless flashbacks, and no need to slow down the show and raise questions. At the end I'm always satisfied. Now, do I think it can be better? Sure but this is something new on TV and it needs to be given some time to succeed. The series will be cancelled which is a shame, like Arrested Development, it was perhaps too "out there" for the majority of primetime audience to comprehend.

My sitcom professor (I'm taking a course on sitcom history and development) also recommended Ugly Betty. He loves that show, but I'm still uncertain whether or not to take his word for it. The only thing he's got going is he developed Married with Children.

If you are a history enthusiast, it is wonderful and entertaining..
