Very disappointing. I think it will have a short shelf life.

I doubt Mormans allow that.
Its slow moving but I think it will pick up speed. The head of the sect is about as nice as Tony Soprano.

I was all set to not like this show as I really don't need another TV show to watch, but it being HBO I decided to give it a shot and am glad I did. Very good, not funny really but this is REALLY Desperate Housewives. I'll keep watching it.

I'm giving it one more episode, only because of the mother possibly poisoning the father and the potential conflict with the head boss guy - (the Prophet). But other than that, the family dynamic 3 wives thing is just waaaaaaaay boring.

I didn't like the first 15 minutes or so, but thought it picked up after that and kind of drew me in.

I think the wives will pick up. I can already tell that Nikki doesn't like the other two, nor does she have the best childrearing skills out there.

I DVR'ed one of the replays, i wasn't that impressed. I've got too many other good shows on my DVR to catch up on right now I don't have time for another full hour show on a wednesday.

It is not meant to be a fast- paced show... it is about the inter-personal relationships of a lifestyle most can't fathom...I read in Entertainment weekly that "HBO has found a way to make us fall in love with polygamists like they did with morticians and gangsters"... I think if you're on the fence, give it a chance... I also know that they have invested in 20 episodes already... same big names behind this that are behind all the HBO "big hitters" give it a chance... mark my words, it'lll be around a while!

it is about the inter-personal relationships of a lifestyle most can't fathomThis is why I find it uninteresting so far. It's a gimmick.
On the one hand, it's like "cool, he gets to screw different women sort of like Kirilenko." On the other it's "look at the problems they have. Polygamy doesn't work, just like I knew!" Oh and "Mormons, dum dum dum dum dum."
I just can't get into it. But, for the record, I thought Six Feet Under was terrible.

Haven't seen Big Love, as it didn't look interesting, but I agree to the n-th degree on Six Feet Under. It was an incredibly overrated soap opera for Stanislawski school dropouts.
I didn't see the Six Feet Under finale, but the summaries I read of it made it sound like the corniest tripe imaginable.

I must say after a slow start and thanks to the rather disappointing season of the Sopranos, this show grew on me. Last night's finale was quite good. My wife said she felt sorry for Barb, but I had no sympathy for her, only the kids. In fact, I hold Barb the most accountable after Bill for continuing to live a big lie. For example being the first wife, she could have told Bill to go pound sand, or divorced him when he first suggested another wife. Instead she went along with it even though she doesn't really believe strongly in polygamy.
As for the second wife Nicky, she's quickly become one of my favorite characters to despise on tv. She is just so cold. It really surprised me that Barb let her speak to her sister that way. For all of Barb's sister's failings, she really had the kids interests at heart.
I think the most troubling aspect of the show is the whole idea that in today's day and age that there are people who could rationalize that particular lifestyle. Also, Bill's obession with Roman is very troubling. I would think it would be best to disassociate ones-self from that enclave. It looks reminds me of that town in Deliverance.

I wouldn't touch polygamy with a 10 foot pole myself (having one wife is enough work for me :D ), but it is still practiced with relative frequency worldwide. I have one friend whose grandfather was a polygamist (they're Muslim) and my wife's grandfather was a polygamist (he's from India). I'm sure it's decreasing as a practice with each generation, but there's still a pretty big slice of the world's population that's okay with it.

Big Love is the show that they cancelled Carnivale for, and for that, I will not support Big Love at all, not even give it a glance. I'm holding a grudge against HBO, and I can't stand Mormons.

Aren't there an estimated 50,000 polygamists living in this country? (Most Utah and Arizona, I believe). At least some of them have to be living what appear to be normal lives.

I think the best thing about the show was how the three wives interacted with each other. All three were very different (especially Nikki, one of the better villians of this TV season) and that contributed a lot to the plot lines.
Honestly, I don't know why Bill ended up going against Roman, since he could always expose him for what he was doing (which he did). Should be interesting next season to see how the family deals with the aftermath of being outed in public.
