MiniLB made a goal and scored one as his side won 3-0. "Top of the table and having a laugh". 9 points from 3 games. 7-0 in goals. Now that's the way to do it. Well done mini and Co.

Time put Billy up again 26 Thanks!

I noticed. It looks great!

Now, time for my youth team story...

So, I am asst. for the U-10s on our local "premier" club. We're in Ohio for a "big" youth tournament and at the one game, just studying some things. Parents going ape every now and then as usual. This time it was the other team's parents. We have had about 4 parent talks. One of them was yelling "focus" to the kids.

One of kids on the bench turns to another one and says, "My younger sister is really dumb. She thinks hot dogs are really made out of dogs."

Puts things in perspective. :)

They're not Korean are they...:D

My fav when coaching the young kids is when one defender HOOFs a long blind ball up the field and 20 kids go haring after it while the parents are going hog wild on the side lines.

We used to call it the Super Bowl play.

No, I think we only have a few kids that can actually hoof it far enough to do that. We're fairly undersized but solid technically. Sadly, that means nothing when you're playing a team that has been together since they were 6yo, and they are basically playing to win without any regard for the kids development. :o

Another great story from the "Sad but true" tales of the weekend:
I also help with the U10 Girls and they were int he same tournament. We go play a very successful and well known club from Philly. Mind you this is U10 girls, so who gives a s--t. But, the format is 8v8. So nearly everyone plays 1-2-3-2.

The team we play, plays without a keeper, puts a girl at the back in a vest and has her push up and play CB when they are in possession. Since no U10 girls is kicking it the length of the field, they crushed us.

Great tactical move? Probably. Horrible ********in sportsmanship? I think so.

Of course, the pseudo-CB/GK was their best player. Did she learn anything that weekend about herself, or improve as a player from being tested? No. But then again, who am I to complain. This is why we'll be beating these teams in 5-6 years at the same tournament. ;)

League has already started for your teams? Wow...well good luck for the rest of the season. Great start.

Had our first U-19 practice, oh boy is this summer going to be interesting. We have some good players from colleges, but most of us are out of shape.

We do have one kid who can throw the ball in the net from around half field, so our new strategy is get it to midfield, kick it off an opponent, have him throw, crash the net, score goals...Yes we are very lazy.

Never really stopped. We have modern artificial turf so we were playing friendlies in January. Plus we played in a Winter league that used artificial turf and covered fields so we could play even if it did snow.

Impressive, see we have the modern turf part, but the weather in the winter doesn't really cooperate. It's hard to play footie in -20 degrees Fahrenheit:D

Guys can do it, I myself played in 10 degrees a couple of falls ago. Girls don't start their season until it stops precipitating.

Anyways, had my first practice today. Gotta start practicing my "Rafa hands", for some reason the kids don't understand my signs while I am talking:rolleyes:

MiniLB had a goal in his game and another called back for an erroneous off side. Damn crap youth refs. He says the colour of the kit makes his skin itch though. If you coludn't guess he's number 5

I believe it is a combination - American football goalposts and soccer goal. Not too uncommon in some places.

Bingo -- this was out in the whitebread, leafy suburbs where they combine the two. I guess it'd work for Gaelic football, too:D

That is funny. They only do that in the city, around here. It's usually at public high schools that used to have ethnic community supported soccer teams.

Here in my town we have serious football playing -- youth, coed, ethnic leagues, and competitive semi-pro. But in the burbs it is usually just youth and the pitches look like that. Bumpy, and hard to play on the deck.

Have my first scrimmage with my U-10s coming up against another U-10 team from our same club. The parents and the kids take it pretty seriously for U-10 footie. They want to beat this team and the other club team in Bismarck, two rivalries at the age of 10, oh boy.

My U-19 team is coming along well. Except some of the practices we have get a little too competitive, but I think that comes from people playing for different school teams and then coming together to play on one team.

My U-10 team is now 2-0 in pre-season play. We have played the other Bismarck Capitol City Soccer Club team and beat them again. It was so hard to keep my mind on the game after what happened this afternoon.

My team has some tall and strong 10 year olds and they really don't get tested by the other team (10+ goals in the first game and 6 or 7 in the second game). Our problem is focus, but that is to be expected. My team likes to score, but they also like to allow goals in.

First tournament in the books for my coaching career. Hundred something tournament in the books for my playing career.

My U-10 team won 3 and tied 1. Highlighted by some good defense and two free kicks that were scored from half line by this kid with a cannon of a leg. I played a experimenta 1-3-1 this tournament. It was a good tournament.

My U-19 team won 1 lost 2 and took third in the tournament. Highlighted by some terrible officiating, a plethora of yellow cards, and a Alonso-like goal from one of our midfielders. He rifled it from just inside the half into the top of the goal, while the keeper stood there just stunned. I Picked up two yellows and one assist on the tournament.

We had the opening practice for high school soccer today at 8am. I'm going to be Girls' JV coach - which should be fun. They're a good group and they seem to want to work hard.

The program has all new coaches for this year. It's exciting to be there at the start trying to build a program and an ethic.

Anyone else actively coaching right now?

Just watching MiniLB's team. I should call him something else. When I started on here, he was 10 years old and about 4 foot tall. Now he's about 6' 1'' and I have to look way up at him. He's playing U-17 in a very competitive travel league-- high school soccer is a Spring sport in Virginia. He's back at striker and wing after some idea they had to make him a defender. He's best asset remains his ability to hold the ball and bring others in. They start with a weekend tourney this weekend.
