THE NEXT SUPPORTER'S GROUP MEETING FOR THE TEXIAN ARMY WILL BE A CASUAL KICK AROUND AT MEMORIAL PARK THIS SATURDAY (MARCH 18) AT 3:00 PM. We are planning on meeting at the parking lot by the soccer field and then finding a place we can play at. If you are late arriving, look for the "1836" flags and the "Texian Army" signs. We'll be discussing some matters, having a game, and possibly having food. It should be a fun afternoon, so bring your family and friends!

Okay, Numero Dos is going to be swamped in the next couple of weeks with work, so it's up to us to set up the kick around. I had hoped to announce the location tomorrow, but didn't find out until tonight that he wouldn't be able to set it up.
So, we can have a Bear Creek field for $40. I don't mind forking over some money for it, if that's where we want to have it. It's a little bit further out than I had hoped, but if it's the only place we can have it, then that's fine.
Does anyone have any other clue where we could do this? We had talked about the kick around happening this Saturday (March 18). Any other locations people know about? We had fun at Hermann Park, but it was a bit too crowded, with crappy parking, and a crappy field. I'd like to maybe have some food and signs saying who we are, and try to get our name out there to passerbys.
So chime in with ideas. Is Bear Creek okay for everyone? If we don't have any eally good leads by Tuesday afternoon, we'll just say let's have it at Bear Creek, so we can get the word out about it.

Bear Creek works fine for me, for obvoius reasons of distance... Will $40 rent a whole field with goals?

A kickaround? I'm pretty sure I'll be there. I know tons of fields with nets (adult and youth sized) we could play for free at here in Brenham - but talk about being REALLY far from the rest of you guys. Anyway... count me in for Bear Creek.

Looking forward to it. Bear Creek has some pretty nice fields. I'm a little concerned about youth teams taking all the fields on a Saturday, though.

Allright, so far Bear Creek is fine with people and I haven't been met with any disagreements.
What time would we want to do this? I think if we try for late afternoon, the place will be easier to get a field, as most games happen in the morning. Should we try around 3? Would that give us enough time to meet for a little while, play some soccer, and maybe have some food before it gets dark?

That sounds fine. The main thing might be whenever they have a field available... I've been there, but never had to reserve a field, just to watch some youth games.

There are some new fields on the Beltway South near Hilcroft around the new Ft. Bend Toll road. I can call to see if we can get them for free.
I can also call to see if we can get the fields at Bayland. Both these are central in Houston or off the Beltway.
I'm in either way and it would be great to meet at 3:00, play till whenever and then go eat/drink for a while and work on our chants and songs!

Allrighty, I talked to the person at Bear Creek and she said we could definitely get a field reserved for this Saturday. It's actually only $30 and that includes a full field (oh gosh I am going to die if we play a full field game) and goals.
Sam, can you call on those today? That way we can make a decision tonight? Grazie.

So is the next supporter's meeting going to be this weekend at the kickaround? I can't make it regardless because of a bachelor party that I've been planning for months but I'll spread the word regardless.
We only have 2 more weekends before the season starts!

Okay, that works out fine, as we'll be having a whole field - kickaround in one half, bachelor's party in the other. Don't forget the entertainment.

If you don't want to reserve a full size field see about a youth size field. Youth fields are actually quite enjoyable to play on as adults if you want to go 6 on 6 and run subs on and off the field at will... and the youth size goal isn't as hard to defend if you're old and slow either. I actually prefer playing 6 on 6 on a youth field to playing 11 on 11 on a full sized field because you get alot more touches on the ball and the spacing/pace of the game is more like hockey.

Hey that's not a bad idea at all. I'll email about that today.
But that means y'all will have to find some place else to have the bachelorette party. Darn.

So is there a Supporters Group meeting afterwards? I have to work Saturday since it's tax season but could meet up at the meeting later.

I ALWAYS want to play small sided ball. Less tracking and wasted off the ball running when no service was delivered...ie less frustration. Way many more touches and free subs to come off and on as needed We are all not in the best shape to be on a 75 x 120 Full Field. ;)
Johnna, if you can get Beer Creek and more specifically a Small Side field for us than book girl! In our first year we are gonna feel out where and when it is easy for ALL OF OUR PEOPLE to get to a field. So we'll try a few different locations like we are doing for the Bar scene.

Awesome. I emailed Mary about a youth field, so we'll see what she says.
For the others asking, we don't really have all that much to discuss to make it an "official" meeting. We'll need to get with people about certain jobs they were doing (i.e. calling sponsors for shirts and food and stuff) and maybe handle some business, but this is going to be more of a fun time to get together and hopefully get our name out there.
I'm sure we'll find a bar somewhere afterwards. We always do. ;)

And to learn our first songs! I spoke with Oliver and some of his staff. He is putting together a Pep Band and I have contacted the Director, a Mr. Aubrey Tucker, who is very pumped up about leading a small musical section right near us in the North End.
With that band in place we now must be able to carry a tune!!! We should already know The Eyes of Texas. But we need to learn The Yellow Rose of Texas, a few other Texas musical classics and some chants that I have created that are very catch and also very simple to pick up. This weekend should be an additional warm-up to us tailgating. We might not be drinking so much on Sat before we take the field, but we are doing a "Gathering" and that is just as fun.

We'll be bringing the little one out to the park this weekend... so I doubt we'll want to head to the bar afterwards with you guys. If ya'll wanna do some grilling or cooking at the park though, let me know cuz we'll stop and pick up some beer/buns/whatever. Also... the yell practice (WHOOP!) is a great idea - I've got lots of practice at that.
