The latest news: Friendly game of Czech republic:
NEW DATE FOR CZECH REP.-COSTA RICA GAME
The Czech Republic will play their World Cup warm-up game against Costa Rica on Tuesday, May 30th - not, as originally planned, on May 31st. The main reason for the change, which has been welcomed by the Czech team’s leadership, is German TV’s interest in showing the match live. The game will be played at Jablonec(city in Czech republic)
In other news, May 26th’s Czech-Saudi friendly will most likely be played at the Tivoli stadium near Innsbruck, Austria.
The Czech Republic’s final game before the World Cup will be June 3rd’s Trinidad & Tobago friendly, in Prague

PETER CECH, goalkeeper Chelsea said for czech press Pravo that Czech can beat Brazil in the world cup.
He played with his team Chelsea against Barcelona. In this context Peter Cech said some comments on Ronaldino. Ronaldino is excellent player. He showed some elegant pieces in the game, however it did not bring always goals. Said Peter Cech. He said that he was not interested about tricks of brazilian "soccer magician". He is only interested if he score goal or not.
Peter Cech is the best goalkeeper in the world nominated by IFFHS.

why does Czech Fed care if GERMAN TV carries game or not?

We'll see how confident Cech is when Ronaldinho lines up for a free kick against him, about 20 yards out, straight away.
Of all the people to talk smack about, the world player of the year would not be my choice...

So, for those who are whining about the U.S. playing weak teams, the Czechs have got Saudi, T&T and Costa Rica.
Latvia is better than the first two and at least as good as Costa Rica.
Ditto Morocco.

I'd be more afraid if Juninho Pernambucano took the freekick.

I'm glad to hear that the Czechs have a lot of confidence concerning Brazil, now that they realize they have no hope of preventing us from winning the group.

The rest of the Concacaf countries have now realized that playing friendly matches before the WC like the US did in the past and is doing now, are very important. They all follow the US system now. Mexico didn't care about the friendly match before the 2002 WC but now has been all changed, thanks to US great showing in Korea.

to continue with what Bltleo started:
- German TV station is looking to capitalize on a World Cup year by showing as many games as possible.
- The Czech Republic is well-known team with many of its players playing in Germany.
- Costa Rica is in Germany's group and will be the opponent in the opening game.
- Czech Fed owns TV rights to its games and by showing a smidgen of flexibility is able to make a bit more money than it would normally.

Central truth:
Television people care about people watching television. Eyeballs are converted to dollars (or Euros in this case) at some point down the line.
Aside form the "World Baseball Classic" and "The Apprentice", television programmers try maximimize the number of glued-in viewers. The two examples defy explanation.

Latvia is not better than Costa Rica, period, and is maybe the equal of T&T and Saudi Arabia. Believe me, Latvia would not walk over those two teams.
Peter Cech talking sh!t about Ronaldinho after he schooled him the other night? What is he thinking? I'm glad he's worried about Brazil. I guess the Euros still aren't paying attention to us. That's going to bite them in the a$$.

Since we're dealing with a translation of an article, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Cech was just responding to a reporter's question. And it's pretty obvious that the press overlooks the US.
I seriously doubt that the Czechs are overlooking us.
The press will be shocked if we go through.
Our opponents, however, will not be.

Everyone of the Czech's games will be against World Cup caliber teams with their FULL squads, we are playing people that are being looked at for future euro and wc qualifiers. I do not think Latvia's reserve squad would beat either of those teams, ditto Morocco.
