We are sorry to inform you that we will not be lifting the transfer embargo against your club until at least the end of this season even though we said we would when your club goes out of administration. You may be dismayed by our decision, but please understand that such a decision does not come without precedent.

This is not the first time we have witheld information from your club about transfers. When you tried to sign Birmingham City's Bryan Hughes on loan, we waited until the deal was about to be struck before informing your club that you could not sign any players. So your manager Micky Adams, who was about to bring in two loan signings, is already familiar with our decision-making process. Yes, you did loan a player to Notts County (Jon Ashton) while they were in administration, but, well, that was different.

We feel that lifting the transfer embargo would send a bad message to your creditors about the state of your finances. Yes, we have sanctioned every move by the consortium led by Gary Lineker and New Fox PLC to take over the club, but still, it would send a bad message.

As the standard bearers of financial prudence (as one can see by our television deals), we are only looking out for the best for our member clubs. Especially Leicester City, who could probably use a promotion season to help their finances, but as chairmen of three clubs who are vying for promotion, we'd rather not see that happen.

Sincerely,
Football League Board of Directors
Terry Robinson-Sheffield United
David Sheepshanks-Ipswich Town
Theo Paphitis-Millwall

P.S.: We'll go ahead and lift Derby County's embargo now.

Whaddya know...

...it appears the Football League have seen the error of their ways and will lift the embargo.

We'll see how things go this week...

...and an interesting postscript: David Sheepshanks' Ipswich Town are now in administration (although it appears to be temporary). I wonder if they'll have a transfer embargo too ;)

[Edit... no offense to Ipswich fans, it's just that the FL seems to have something out for Leicester...]

Dear Leicester City,

Congratulations on your move out of administration. To celebrate such an achievement, we have decided this morning to tell you that you will still not be allowed to make any new signings this year.

Sincerely,
The Three Amigos
