I feel this topic deserves its own thread.

There is currently an issue with picking players in the Brazilian leagues. The player in question is Javier Mascherano. I feel that for leagues that do not start in the fall, there should be a seperate cut off day. If not, then judges should consider lowering the number of games, especially if they played a lot of games the previous season.

I suggest August 1st [Moronically inconsiderate of SA players] (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7761535&postcount=430): It is what happends when you are trying to spitifre respond to 20 replies in 10 minutes on a Discussion Thread

Nicephoras concurrs with August 1st (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7761564&postcount=433): As Usual No One Responds

Well Nice, myself and some others feel like that August 1st deadline (even though it was randomly mentioned) shouldnt apply to the south american league players. Does everyone Agree?

Of course it shouldn't. But it does. To change now would be stupid, as everyone's board from round 1 on would probably look very different.

all this bitching, complaining and law-abiding is making the draft boring and fascist.

Who skipped over a "fit and playing" SA player because of an appearance issue?

If all of this is over not picking Mascherano, you should be conforted by the fact he probaly will be degraded in the eyes of others by not having played much at all.

I saw we reverse the qualifications for SA players. 10 apps this season, 20 previous. It makes sense.

Mine wouldn't. I didn't know about the August 1 thing. It's not in the rules and was apparently made off the cuff after the draft had started.

Coming from the guy who edited his picks, multiple times? C'mon.

Then you shouldnt have come to this thread. This thread is for all of that, the other thread isnt.

Making rules off the cuff is PROBLEM. I sympathize that you weren't aware of the Aug 1st decision, but most drafters were. To change it back now would be a mistake in my opinion.

We really need to stop changing the rules midstream.

Tom... there is no august first deadline, it was only discussed in the thread IIRC.

You're right.

However...

From the official rules thread:

2 - Player Eligibility - any player selected must have played a minimum of 30 games (for club and/or country) over the past two seasons. In addition, at least 20 of those games must have been made this season. This excludes keepers.
NOTE: Players must have met this requirement by March 6th to be eligible. Any player who has not played the requisite 20 (or 30) games by March 6th will not be eligible.

According to these rules, anyone playing in a South American leage with a current season of less than 20 games is ineligible.

Does anyone have a different interpretation of this?

That's every league in South America.

Exactly.

So then Mascherano and Tevez are ineliable then?

Why are you asking me?

Exactly.

So you took this to heart? Decided not to pick any SA players? Yet didn't debate the Tevez pick?

I don't get what you are meaning. I think it is obvious the rule lacked foresight, not DS' fault BTW. I don't see why it can't be changed. But obviously people need to look over solutions that are posted or come up with their own.

People can feel free to provide input all they like, but this and any other decision should be made by the people running the draft. Otherwise, we can just make up rules as we go. See also "August 1st"...
