What teams are well-known for playing attacking/offensive soccer?

And should they abandon that philosophy IF they can win more games with a more defensive style of football?

Newcastle Utd - The Keegan Years.

Probably only Arsenal a few years ago have played better attacking football, but they never destroyed Man U 5-0.

And yes if we had played a more defensive style at points, we probably would have won a championship or two.

Football's about scoring more goals than the opposition. If your tactic is less effective than another tactic, then you should switch. It's sport not art.

The England rugby team won the world cup in 2003 by playing dire, turgid rugby. Do you think they'd rather have played open, attacking rugby and come home empty handed?

Same with Greece in Euro 2004. I doubt they'd rather have played attacking football and gone out in the first round. Trophies are worth more than praise from football snobs.
