If LA v Saprissa deserves it own thread then so does this one.

The prediction thread is really mixed on this game.

I think this game is not so much who will win it as it is who will lose it.

New England is in pre-season form and suffering from a number of key injuries - Parkhurst, Smith, Ralston, Noonan.

La Liga has not been playing well lately and may be ripe for the pickin'.

I'll be watching tonight (and into tomorrow) with my fingers crossed. I hope I don't wake up the wife and kids cheering when the Revs score the game winner.

This is the worst LDA that i've seen in my life, it is not even funny to make fun of the liguistas anymore.....

NERev's player Cancela #8 is great, one of the best foreign players that have been in Saprissa!

He scored a great free kick in his last game @ Alejandro Morera Soto stadium.

Coach Nicol was recently quoted as saying that this game's starting 11 will be the same as the last game with the exception of Noonan (who played right mid) being injured. What he chooses to do to replace Noonan is not obvious, but check out the thread on this on the New England Revolution board under MLS teams to see some theories.

As for Sims, I doubt he will start, but could be a sub.

There is a lot of love for Cancela in New England. Sadly for him, Nicol has not used him as a starter for some time. It is believed that Nicol feels that Cancela is week on defensive duties. He has been very effective as a second half sub when we need a goal. That said, with Noonan (and a bunch of other guys) injured, you could see Cancela start this one.

My guess for a starting Rev side:

Reis
Riley, Heaps, Hernandez, Franchino
Dempsey, Dorman, Joseph, Cancela, Lochhead
Twellman

Don't let the diagram fool you into thinking it will be a 4-5-1.
The Revs will stay solid in defense and look for a lot of fluid, attacking runs by Dempsey from midfield.

Sure hope this Ref doesn't decide the game which he has repeatedly done every time he Refs a game involving a USA team.

(crossposted from Revs boards)

Since there will NOT be a play-by-play thread on BS due to them shutting down (btw, why can't they schedule this "maintenance" for 3am, or at least at a time when there are no live games featuring American teams? Duh...)

Anyone who wishes to check out what's happening, (assuming the live RevsRadio webcast works as planned) is welcome to join us in the MatchNight Chatroom (http://chat.matchnight.com/).

See you there at 9pm.

New England Soccer News had Latham as our starting LM.

As for the game, I was planning on a nap but I'm too excited to take one. I'll just tough it out.

Due to our weak history, this is the biggest meaningful international game in Revs history. Especially with the chance to play Club America in the next round.

Alajuela's lineup

Ok I am not a liguista and i actually hate them, but this is the expected line-up

Wardy
Wallace-Rodriguez-Marin-Castro
Hernandez-Montero-Badilla
Lopez
Ruiz-fonseca-

4-man defense, with 3 "mixtos", one creative mf and 2 forwards

1 forward would be to risky IMHO , this is do or die , twellman needs some one up top to accompny him, or count on a early exit

Do you think we're going to let him go that easy?

Why not take his same XI and make it:
Reis
Riley, Heaps, Hernandez, Franchino
Dorman, Joseph,Cancela,Lochhead
Twellman, Dempsey

This is being played in Alajuela, which should be a huge advantage for the Ticos. I can't see New England winning this game. They needed to get it done in the cold and snow in Boston.

If you actually mean or home game in bermuda instead of "the cold and snow in boston" then ur right....
Just incase you didnt know, we traded our home leg (we were supposed to host leg 2) and also played our "home" match in Bermuda

No excuses, we got work to do now
