ESTO (a reliable futbol magazine in MExico has kept stats since the 1940s reported that over 50 K went las week to the America-Chivas game)

Makes you wonder if a Mexican League (disguised as American) in the US is in the making. Stadiums in LA and Dallas (highly populated Mexican communtities).

I heard that Mexican promoters want to test out the San Antonio market which I think is the most obvious. Not sure if field turf is installed at the alamodome..but its legal to use now.. San Anotnio may be seeing some exibition games real soon.

Imagine a 1st division MFL team in Los Angeles

Club Name: Atletico Los Angeles

Colors: ?

Players: Develop players from the South Western United States for the team.

Stadium: Would have to be pretty big. I would say about 50K for starters.

I believe it would suceed because the ability to see games that actually "count" and not just friendlies or suedo-copas to make some $$$, would fill the stadium for both Atletico Los Angeles and the visiting teams.

Too bad FIFA would probably not let this ever take place.

MFL Expansion has been an option for a long time. If the MLS ever folds you can bet that AEG would be first in Line to bring in MFL franchises to the U.S.. Hehe Imagine going to the HDNTC to watch Chivas or Club America, the ticket prices would be off the roof !!!

Maybe Hunt and Uncle Phil have a master plan.

Buy all the MLS teams, build a stadium in Frsico Texas and Los Angeles and then fold the MLS and (the MFL sends two teams back down to the primera "A") then add two MFL teams to the Southwestern United States.

Makes me wonder...

The MFL does not need to send two teams back to primera A in order for there to be Franchises in the U.S. The road has allready been paved by the Colibries and Puebla. All they have to do is buy the Franchise from another Club, be it one that is going to get Promoted (Bachilleres/Puebla) or one that the promotores are not happy with (Celaya/Colibries) It is that simple..

Uncle Phil is all about making $$$, and you better believe you will see a steady stream of MFL teams playing in these new stadiums. Or other national teams, like the Mex-ES match in Home Depot.

On one hand, MLS fans appreciate Phil for spending the money. At least he has done something to bring some new stadiums to the league. I love RFK, but it's embarrassing to sit in a 3/4 empty stadium year after year. Even worse is AstroTurf or FieldTurf fields with American football lines drawn on them. On the other, he sells us out by pandering to the Latino fan base with these kind of matches that have zero appeal to the US fan. But you know what, when I have a billion dollars I can schedule whatever matches I like, so who is to blame him for chasing the peso?

zero appeal to the US soccer fan?????? are you crazy? im a huge Rapids fan and i attend almost every game, at the same time im a big fan of the mexican league and i am not latino. i just like quality soccer and the more the better, be it the mexican league, manchester united or any other club or national teams. for MLS to live on st. phil and hunt need to make money off these venues they are building, and im sorry but 15 MLS games plus a few playoff games wont cut it, they need to fill dates. and i think most soccer fans including myself feel that the more soccer there is to watch the better.

this new stadiums can only hold 20 k+ , ticket prices would have to be very very high to make some serious money ( since your post is about$$$)

I would hate to see Mexican league games or mexican franchise in the USA, it allready upsets me they are playing games on our soil against non american teams.

From a business point of view and soccer quality I wonder what if CONCACAF federations could agree for their players not to be considered as foreigners.
This would open the door for MLS to have teams with 10 mexicans and 5 honduran and 3 americans if they choose to. At the same time americans could play in Mexico, and not count as foreigners.

Consider that the costs of operating a smaller stadium are much lower, so profits can be made in those venues w/o pricing tix at $150. Plus, since he builds them, I'm sure he gets the bulk of parking, concessions et al, unlike the situation many MLS teams find themselves in now.

I pray CONCACAF never agrees to that. I have no desire to watch DC United field 7 Salvadorans, 3 Bolivians and Nick Rimando. Our team is bad enough already.

You are right that he needs matches to fill the stadiums. Take a good look at the crowd when you go. If the match is Man U, you will see an overwhelming % of white Eurosnobs. Bring in Chivas v. Morelia, and the crowd will be overwhelmingly Mexican. There will be some Latinos who go see Man U, and some Americans who go see Chivas, but it will break right along ethnic lines.

I would love to see an MFL team here in Chicago.

The MFL has allready discussed the possibility of allowing Yanks to play in the MFL as non foreigners, similiat to the EU status in the Euro Leagues. This would also allow Mexicans to play in the MLS as non foreigners. If this ever happens i wouldnt expect the MLS to field squads full of foreigners, it would most likely be three foreigners about two Mexies and the rest Yanks..

Good point.

Also here in Los Angeles Uncle Phil could bring over team from Japan and Korea which would probably do good in attendance.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Korea/Japan matchup at the HDC.

I would totally go to MFL games if they were nearby and I'm not Mexican.

I think one of the reasons they do so well here is because the opportunities are much more limited for Mexicans to see their favorite teams and so they will go out in great numbers.

I was thinking about this for minute, but I did'nt really come up nothing. I guess the name would have to appeal to the Chicago community in general not just Mexicans, or would it.
