Nothing earth shattering, but interesting, as always.

Good to see they have kept up on their MLS teams name. (Houston Dynamo)

I liked the article, but more for the entertainment aspect, as opposed to the information. There may be many choices available to BA for forwards, but outside of McBride, no one comes close. There's question marks around everyone:

1. Twellman - getting better, but has a ways to go against international competition.
2. EJ - not yet in form. I sure hope he gets there.
3. Dempsey - sure, he's scoring, but he's a mid, not a striker.
4. Donovan - striker or midfielder? this obviously has been covered on BS already.
5. Noonan - injured now, but I actually like his chances of making the roster.
6. Josh Wolff - what have you done for BS lately??

I thought Lalas made the cup all-star team in 94? Or was that honorable mention?

GREAT ARTCILE, im surprised. people on FIFA know about US players better than people on these forums, that's for sure. Even the Freddy Adu piece was good.

There was no honorable mention category in '02, although it says here that McBride, Friedel, and Donovan were among the 53 finalists for the all-cup team, or rather the 37 not selected. A decent fact, if you ask me.

And IIRC, Lalas was named Honorable Mention for WC 1994.

I haven't read too much at FIFA.com other than travel and ticket information, but doesn't it seem that the FIFA articles really compliment the US more than you'd expect? For some reason, I'd expect them to be more neutral... maybe they boast every team they write about? Or maybe all the writers are from there respective countries?

Don't confuse the FIFA site with anything remotely journalistic. Its job is to promote the product. Period.

It's like going on to the Coca-Cola corporate website and finding an article on the merits of Cherry Coke.

I had a video which was a selection of players to make up the ultimate WC'94 team, and Lalas was quoted as the team's biggest surprise---I don't know if that is a fifa selection, but he made the team for the purposes of the video

I think it was:

Romario--Stochikov--Baggio

Hagi--Bald Bulgarian guy--?--maybe D.Baggio, Branco?

Maldini--McGrath--Lalas--some Brazilain

----ravelli

I wish I could find that tape----but that's good company, esp. the back line, that Alexi is in

The funny thing is if Claudio Reyna hadn't injured himself in training the week before the World Cup, Alexi Lalas probably wouldn't have even played. It was this injury that forced Thomas Dooley into midfield and broad Lalas into defense to replace him.

Letchkov was the bald Bulgarian, and maybe Aldair was the Brazilian defender- or Carlos or Cafu

I agree. Don't count him out. We need a poised, thinking player who, at least at club level, knows how to finish CALMLY.

ussoccer.com, FWIW, under Awards, lists Lalas as Honorable Mention in 94 and Donovan as Honorable Mention in 2002, with Reyna as First Team in 2002.

oddly, no mention of one bobby convey....

I suspect, if it's not dempsey, then convey will be the big surprise to the rest of the world....

beasley poor showing against poland might open the door for convey...

OR arena decides convey is the guy off the bench to inject offense..
