Good result against the US 'alpha' team. Even though the first half was crap.
Schweinsteiger (sp) should have started from the off - Asamoah was pap. I would image Klinsmann won't be pining for him in 7 weeks time? I also think that having Kuranyi and Klose up top and Ballack behind gives the German team more shape. The whole 4-3-3 just didn't work. Plus Kehl played an unusual role not really suited to his style.

The BILD newspaper headline is "Erst rumpelte es, dann rappelte es..."
Hard to translate it,
i try it with "First Germany played like idiots, then come the goals" :D
But i comapre with them in one point, Klose was man of the match,
he was involved in all 4 goals. :)
Can't agree with BILD here. Neuville was the MOTM he broke the game open and gave US fits. Klose did not really come into the game until AFTER Neuville came in.

Honest question german fans:
Does this result vindicate Klinsman for a little while?
Personally, i dont think you guys played particularly well today, yes i know it ended 4-1, but was that the result of great german play or poor US play?
I guess what i am saying is, Do you think this result will provide a false sense of security in the German fans?
No, it won't in my opinion, cause there is a latent Anti-Klinsmann attitude in parts of the press (mostly yellow press like the Bild) and in parts of the football fans. Though the game result met the expectations of all in the end, the way the game was played and was won in the end won't change this attitude. The people who think that we would do better with another coach - as if another coach could cook other players  - surely won't change their mind after that game.

To those who think the german team was playing at full strength....
- Frings and Deisler (both regular starters) were missing
- Podolski had an abdominal influenza last week and wasn't at full strength
- our centre backs: Metzelder does not play at all in his club, Mertesacker has not yet fully recovered from his ankle injury
- Schweinsteiger had the flu, did not practice with the team last week and missed Bayerns game on Sunday
sorry guys, maybe I'm translating the phrase "c-USA outplayed a-germany" wrong. In my opinion in means you were the better team......but seriously which game did you watch?
We played like sh*t for 70 minutes, but your team easily exceeded this number.
I guess I'm realistic when I say we may reach the last 16 teams in the WC and then we are done, but when I look into the US board I can say with a clear conscience that some of you are overrating your team in a ridiculous way.
Italy and the czechs don't have loosers like Friedrich or Metzelder in their team and I doubt Hejduk, Donovan, Pope etc. will change the outcome of your first round exit

I agree, the match became better after the substitutions,
but Klose had also some moments before.
Klose played a wonderfull pass to Podolski after 10 minutes,
normally this is a goal, the pass was class.
And he irritated Keller at the Schweinsteiger goal,
then after Neuville came in,
he won the header before the Neuville goal,
made a goal and then play a cross to Ballack at the 4-0.

THANK YOU!:) Neuville coming into the game--aside from his goal--opened things up. Asamoah was "gotts" ! (Asked Uncle Junior for a translation of that word!)

the player of the match had to be NEUVILLE
he came on for asamoah and was amazing. he scored a goal after coming in and made it great heel pass to Klose who then scored. he easily was the man that made the match. schweinsteiger also did a good job once being brought on himself scoring the first goal of the match but id give the edge to Neuville. Kahn had a great save to stop a goal from a eddie johnson header from a corner. for most of the match though germany's offense took to long to set up allowing the usa defense to get in place for most of the match. ballack was left wide open for the last goal when he headed in a pass. the usa's only goal was scored on what i would call "random."

being a U.S. fan i'd like to clarify the first part of this comment. i haven't seen any real U.S. fan on the american board as being "pissed".
you're probably sensing the frustration at holding germany at bay for 60+ minutes (while having the better run of play for good stretches) and then having a few defenders who won't make the WC squad blow it for us.

BTW, can anyone tell me why people who support the USA post on the Germany board during this game and vice versa. The only reason I could think of to go to the USA board is to congratulate them had they won. Almost everything else is just bad style. The funniest things are the I-am-bitter-but-will-try-to-disguise-it-posts of course... 'so do you think people in Germany will overrate.. etc.' - hilarious.

The whole country of USA should be in mourning cause of this loss, but sadly there not cause it seems not to many people caught on to football yet, and if USA are to beat germany it would have to not be in germany. I was like wow when i saw this game it seemed to be like a world cup game cant believe so many spectators, never will be like that in USA

Anyone in Germany knows that this was not USA first team. It was written in the papers and said many times in the match comment.
The game will be taken as it is in my opinion: A victory that was needed to calm down the tabloids but letting us be still unsure about the possibilities at the WC.
BTW: the german team was not a B team like the US, but I think it was not the german team as it will be in the opening game either.
There we will see Schweinsteiger, Frings and Borowski from the beginning, different tactic and different stamina. And they will have practiced together 3 and a half week.
In return, that will mean much less mistakes in the build-up game, better defense and much, much more powerplay.
Defenitely the US team will be much better in the World Cup, but the German team will be too.
One can have some hope from the about 10 good chances they were able to produce, so we now know, that they have the individual class and ability to produce. Now it´s only a question of preparation, to reduce errors and rise speed of combination game.

I'm a fan of both - USA first, Germany second. And I think it's perfectly okay for fans of both to post in both forums. It would be boring otherwise.
As for the USA - not a big deal. The guys who were on the cusp either eliminated themselves (Berhalter, Zavagnan, Klien, Ching), or played themselves into contention (Convey, Gibbs). Mastroeni was apparently good, but that is pretty much expected of him. Same with Eddie Johnson. Arena considered this purely an evaluation game, with the result being secondary.
As for Germany, it was nice to see that it wasn't purely the Michael Ballack show. It seems Klose, Nueville, and Schweinsteiger all made major impacts. And it seems that having Kehl, a pure defensive mid, helped the center backs. And it seems that CMetz and Merte might be a decent combo. Friedrich is probably more solid defensively than Owo on the right.
The overall impression (I haven't seen the game yet - have it DVR'd, but have been following the BS PBP) is that Germany, nor the USA, had much shape, and both played fairly sloppy. But Germany, without relying purely on Ballack heroics (even though he got a late header), made big plays when needed.
For Germany, the game was a positive step forward toward June (in spite of playing a USA mostly "b" side), and a slight boost of confidence.

Yeah well, guess I am too critical. I didn't watch the game, did you? What did you think? Pretty meaningless probably. Nice to see that Klose seems to be doing ok (not suprising after his performances for Werder). What to do with Neuville now, I wonder. I was wondering before if he should play with Klose up front. I think Podolski might actually be very overrated, based on a few selected good performances. I am not a big fan of the other German forwards either.
As for the American team, guess Berhalter is out? Any conclusions from the game?
