Well then it's the same as having injured players. All excuses. Next time send your u-21 team out here, so that when you lose 7-0 you can say, jeez, it was our u-21 team, what do you expect.

P.S. Go ******** yourself.

The U.S fielded a reserve team and lost big. Mostly due to Berhalters bad defense, mind you but it is what it is. I thought the U.S did very well most of the game save for those defensive errors by berhalter. I really only expected a germany win and that's exactly what happen so as a U.S fan I wasn't surprised. I would be concerned about Germany's lack of intensity early on in games as that's what cost them against the Italians and could have cost them here. If Germany doesn't pick things up than they will have a LOOOOOOONG World Cup this year.

Honest question german fans:

Does this result vindicate Klinsman for a little while?

Personally, i dont think you guys played particularly well today, yes i know it ended 4-1, but was that the result of great german play or poor US play?

I guess what i am saying is, Do you think this result will provide a false sense of security in the German fans?

onionsack..good question. Concerning the press?? It will give him some space, but the press love a controversy, so I am sure they will find something else. It builds confidence for them, sure, but that's where they are at in their buildup to the WC.
For us Yanks, I just saw the game as another game for Bruce to look at some players. And the postive of that, is that he can now safely close the book on a few players. And some players played very well.

As for A squad vs B squad...who cares? The game was an experiment of sorts for both sides.

That said.. I still don't know what to expect of this german squad in the WC... it's an enigma for me..

I think it's an enigma for the most important person too (Klinsmann). How do you explain playing total shit for 70 minutes and then for 20 minutes wonderful, brilliant football

I dunno... we should ask Rafa Benitez... :D

But yeah... I agree with you and Cazlon.. we need to work on playing consitent thoughout the game. The players mentality is a big question mark sometimes. We don't have a world class squad by any stretch of the imagination, but our players can play much, much better than we saw in the first half.

Being an American fan I'm really impressed. Yes, we fell apart in the second half, but that is to be expected when most of the guys on the field are in their mls preseason.

Our first half performance from our B team was really good against Germany's best. All the Germany players are well into their regular season. This really makes me believe we can compete even with an injury or two. Some good depth.

Sure, most of the match Germany didn´t play good football,
but USA team played very solid. Not easy to play such teams,
also it was an improved "B-team".
What the people will remember is the result.

It will give some self-confidence back to the players,
but nobody becomes a dreamer.

Was a good result.

Yea Arena has some selection problems now. Gibbs played well. The midfield pair of Mastroeni and Zavagnin were MONSTER today they killed the German Midfield for long times. Convey gave Friedrich problems dribbling but his final product was missing. Johnson played well and deserved a goal.

Good performance for 70 minutes by the US. But Berhalter has become a liability (after all he is a Zwei Bundesliga player ;) ). Conrad will become a good player, but he is still young. All of teh US subs were overwhelmed by the atmosphere seemingly...

I don't think the German fans really care about some of the MLS players, held up to some extent in the game. And furthermore, these players have been playing since the beginning of the year with the USMNT, and are in better shape than preseason (except Gibbs, coming off injury). Let's just give congrats to the German soccer fans. Their team beat us soundly, and played like their capable of playing. As for our comments on the USMNT, let's keep it on our boards.

What is the German press saying about the win?

As far as I'm concerned the back four should be set for the WC. Mertesacker and Metzelder have the potential to make a solid pair. And Friedrich and Lahm are by far our best fullbacks, they provide good runs up and down the pitch and do their fair share of hard work when it comes to tracking back.

Onto the midfield. Even though Kehl didn't have an outstanding game, he did provide that extra something which with time (Klinsman really should have selected him earlier) he could solidify. Ballack right alongside him, but not in the offensive role he's been used to. Also Schweinsteiger must have solidified that LW role by now, he came on and made an immediate impact and given Poldi plays he'll link up even better with him. Now as for the right flank, I'd like to give it to Borrowski who has played the role for Bremen well and did much of the same for the little time he had on today.

Upfront, I would still prefer Klose and Podolski ideally, however i think Klose and Neuville link up much better and compliment each other that much more.

So in retrospect, let's look at the lineup so far:

----------------------Kahn-------------------------
Friedrich-Mertesacker--Metzelder--Lahm
----------------------Kehl--------------------
Borrowski--------Ballack-------------Schweinsteiger
------------Neuville-------------------------------
--------------------------Klose-----------------------

Solid line-up. I particularily agree with Kehl being in there. He's a true defensive mid, while Frings really isn't. Schweini is quite good on his day, based on recent BL performances, Borrowski's stock is rising rapidly.

The BILD newspaper headline is "Erst rumpelte es, dann rappelte es..."

Hard to translate it,
i try it with "First Germany played like idiots, then came the goals" :D

But i compare with them in one point, Klose was man of the match,
he was involved in all 4 goals. :)

background: "Rumpelfußballer"
A "Rumpelfußballer" is a football player without any technic,
he can´t play football.
So in the first half the players "rumpelten" a lot. :D
