City to seal Riera deal
By Francisco Acedo - Created on 7 Mar 2006
Albert Riera will complete a permanent switch to Manchester City from Espanyol this month.
The 23-year-old has impressed hugely since moving to Eastlands on loan in January.
Now a Catalunyan club source has confirmed that the deal will be sealed in the next few weeks.
"The agreement for the sale of Riera is practically complete, City have confirmed their interest in closing this subject," said the source.
Espanyol's sporting director Cristobal Parralo is brokering the deal and negotiations are still ongoing, but the transfer for around €5 million (£3.5 million) is expected to be finalised shortly.
Riera confirmed that he will accept the deal, saying: "I am happy in England."
Espanyol are equally content, as they will make €2 million on Riera, having paid Bordeaux €3 million for his services only last summer.
