Who thinks Conor Casey will get a call-up for the match v. Germany? Especially if the Revs or Galaxy advance in the CCC. I'd like to see what he brings to the table.

Even without losing the 5 MLS players they will be shorthanded. I wouldn't be surprised to see Casey and possibly one or two other German-based players we don't usually see.

Casey will definitely get a call up if he is healthy. Does anyone know how he has been performing with his club?

Casey suited up for Mainz this weekend and was subbed in during the second half. I didn't see the match, but apparently his play was moderate--no major accomplishments or mishaps. Good sign to see him playing, though.
I think BA would be remiss not to call him up at this point. A little competition at striker, especially courtesy of the Bundesliga, wouldn't hurt anybody.

Aren't you tired of making these kinds of predictions?
Casey might get an invite because he is there and has a history with the USMNT, though I think his chances are low. It might depend on how the Revs and Galaxy do in Costa Rica (not a good prognosis).

Arena does like Casey. Even if the Revs or Gals don't advance (which is very probable) I can see him get a call up unless Arena thought he was too rusty.

Talk about a waste of Nats minutes.
But Arena loves the guy and I'd expect Casey
to get a shout.

indeed. wasn't el-professor predicting how we'd see several new faces against poland? and now, with our last chance to get anyone together on euro soil before the world cup we're going to see faces we don't normally see? like who, the 2nd & 3rd german division guys? gimme a break.

I think Casey gets called up if for nothing else he's based in Germany. Right now hes 3-4 on the depth chart at target forward (McBride, Twellman, Ching/Himself).
If he's called up, he'd still need to have a hell of a performance to get on the roster IMO...

Against Poland (where everyone was available and I assume Arena called up the players at the top of his list) Arena selected McBride, Twellman, EJ, and Wolff. Presumably, we'll call in four forwards for Germany, just like we did against Poland. McBride should be unavailable. Twellman may be unavailable. EJ and Wolff are available and I assume will get selected. That means Arena needs to call in 1-2 forwards who didn't make the roster for Poland. Likely possibilities are Ching and Rolfe (played in 2006 domestic friendlies), and Casey (unavailable for prior games due to injury but in Germany and available for this game). Just a guess, but since Casey plays the same role as McBride, is in Germany, has played for Arena many times before, and hasn't been evaluated recently, I guess he gets the call.

to take that one step further, casey gets the call instead of ching. meaning ba brings casey, wolf, rolfe, ej.
i bet he calls casey in even if tt is available and he calls in 5 forwards and only 4 make the game day roster

I agree, at this point Caey should get preference over Ching, who's had a slew of friendlies this year with which to impress the Bruce. This'll be Casey's only shot before the naming of the roster, and all things being fair he deserves as much of a shot as the big Hawaiian received.

Casey has to get another look. Even if it's just for a practice or two and no minutes in the game. He's too high on the depth chart to ignore in case we are struck by the injury bug. Numer of US Nat forwards without history of significant injuries = 0, if you count Donovan as a midfielder.

Connor Casey: The Offensive version of Jeff Agoos.
Does that comparison refer to being injury prone and having no match practice over the past few years? I would think JOB would be a closer comparison...
He played well in the 2000 Olympics, and had a very successful youth NT carrer. His first senior cap was against Poland, in Poland in 2004, and he reportedly played well then too. If you recall back at the beginning of qualifying, he was a starter. He then promptley hurt his knee and was basically out of the mix until the 2005 Gold Cup, where he, again, promptly hurt his knee. He just received his first game action since that last knee injury this weekend.
The guy is a physical presence, and has a cannon of a shot can...the problem is, most strikers need consistent minutes to find their goal-scoring boots...and he just doesn't have them over the past few years. If he wins a starting role and saves Mainz from relegation with his goal-scoring form, then maybe he'll be on the team. Otherwise, a rusty, out-of-form striker doesn't do anyone any good.

I've never seen Casey net as quality of a goal as the one Agoos got in 2002.

u need to somehow find highlights of some of his goals in germany when he scored a ton of goals in the second division. some darn amazing goals, including one where he went from right to left about 30 yds out near the corner of the 18 and hit a rocket lefty into the far post upper corner. ive never even seen one of our forwards hit a shot like that in MLS against weaker defenses.

Says the guy who promotes Edson Buddle every time it comes up. Casey can ball, he brings alot to the table if he's healthy.

No breaks for you!
We have several second division players (including the MLS folks) still trying out. I thought The Bruce would do it v. Poland because he had just done if for the MLS players, but apparently he wanted most of his final team there. Against Germany he doesn't have that luxury. So he can either fill in with MLS players getting their last chance, or try someone local.
I'm not making any predictions this time, just speculatin'.
