Like I'm sure many of you have, I've been keeping an Excel sheet, trying to figure out who is in and out for this summer. What I'm curious is, with only 3 and a half months till the selection, how many guys are still in the running for the 23 spots. I came up with 38, including everyone who I thought had some chance, keeping in mind the possibilities of alternates and injuries (which is why I have 5 keepers). Who would you add or take off the list?
GK- Keller, Howard, Hahnneman, Reis, Hartman
D- Oneuyu, Cherundolo, Bocanegra, Lewis, Pope, Gibbs, Berhalter, Hedjuk, Spector, Allbright, Conrad, Dunivant, Califf
M- Dempsey, Donovan, Reyna, Maestroeni, Beasley, Convey, O'Brien, Noonan, Ralston, Olsen, Klein, Quaranta, Armas
F- McBride, Johnson, Twellman, Wolff, Rolfe, Ching, Casey

Pretty good list but we'd really have to be hit up by injuries for Casey, Quaranta or Rolfe to make it.

take off Reis, Hartman, Albright, Callif, Armas, Quaranta, Klein, Olsen, Ralston, Casey, Ching, Rolfe.
Theres still a lot of competition for spots on defense, but midfield and fowards are about settled, as is GK

edited for who I think is in the running. it'll be interesting to see who starts off the MLS season in gear. it'll be the most interesting start to a season in four years, especially now that the games matter for the season championship.
GK- Keller, Howard, Hahnneman
D- Gooch, Dolo, Boca, Lewis, Pope, Gibbs, Berhalter, Hedjuk, Conrad, Dunivant
M- Dempsey, Donovan, Reyna, Mastroeni, Beasley, Convey, O'Brien (unlikely, but B.A. will take him if he gets some games IMO), Noonan (injury is a setback), Zavagnin (holding on by a thread), Ralston (injury is a killer, plus Dempsey and Noonan seem to have overtaken him)
F- McBride, Johnson, Twellman, Wolff, Rolfe (i think B.A. has already cut him mentally, but he may be barely hanging on - might see action v. germany as a sub?)
Who's Done
Defense
- Pearce: too raw for the WC.
- Spector: too little too late. lewis and dunivant have the inside track.
Mid
- Olsen: competition is too stiff and he's too inexperienced at this point.
- Klein: has shown he just can't cut it at the highest level.
Forward:
- Jaqua: injury did in any fleeting hopes he had.
- Ching: mcbride, twellman, where does he fit in?
- Casey: injury really hurt him, but he's never really shown he belongs.

It's definitely too early to nail down the left back position. Dunivant had decent games and "showed progress" against weak teams. He had a "slight edge" over Pearce. If all you have is a slight edge over Pearce, I doubt you're a lock for LB. Lewis is a lock. Dunivant, by no means, is. Add injury to insult, he missed one important friendly to gauge where he is and quite likely he'll miss the only other important one before May to tell where he stands against the bigger players. Out of all the positions to eliminate people, LB is the most suspect.
