Tony Meola, Kasey Keller, and Brad Friedel all turned out to be great keepers than we kind of got an okay group right behind them with Hahnemann, Hartman, Reis, etc... but after that all our potential replacements for Keller, Meola, and Friedel have all kind of died off. maybe it's because they're not old enough but then i remember Keller's performance against Brazil when he was like 27.
then there was Howard, Brown, and Kirk(i remember reading an article saying that he was going to be the #1gk in 2002 in soccer digest). Kirk was the first to become a dud. he retired at what? 23? Brown's rookie year i thought he might be a contender for a spot in 2006 or even 02. he was good in MLS but he committed career suicide by going to Norway. now he's playing in a league probably lower than the USL. Howard was EPL GK of the year at 24 and looked like he might be the #1 GK in 06 but he soon found a spot on the bench. his only chance to come back is to leave Man U. then DJ Countess was suppose to be great and he is crap. where is he even playing at now? he's no where on MLSnet.com.
Guzan, Wells, Westberg, and possibly Seitz are about the only hope we have left because in the youth levels i don't hear anyone talking about a standout goalkeeper.

so tell me am i overreacting or do i have a right to be scared?

i predict Howard will go to a mid-table English team, show he is still class, and then take over for Keller

He makes a big club style salary.

Howard is quality I think, Man U wont know how grateful theyll be once VDS is gone. I hope he stays myself. And even Hahnemann maybe as a failsaf. He'll be 37 in 2010 which is kind of pushing it, but keep in mind Keller and Friedel are in the same age bracket. Something tells me Marcus wouldnt mind sticking around until 2010 if it meant he could get starting WC time, he's a good keeper and the Reading games exemplify that. That is assuming he sticks to form. But have faith that American keepers tend to get better with age.

After Howard Id say the gods are pointing to Guzan, Wells, and Westberg.

Anyone else think Hahnemann could last until 2010 as a legitimate contender for our keeper in the cup?

He makes a big club style salary. A reasonably well financed club like Wigan, Birmingham, Reading (counting chickens), Newcastle (if Given goes), Bolton, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa or West Ham could easily afford him or come close enough to his ManU salary.

I'm no Meola fan for sure. But, to deny he has been a great keeper is just wrong.

You're overreacting. We're deepest at GK.

Howard is still relatively young, and Hanehmann is a great keeper.

Worry about our midfield w/o Reyna. Donovan showed against Poland he isn't near Reyna's class.

Donovan's a better player, but he's not a true central midfielder.

Of course we did... :p

It's not like Bruce said Howard's the next #1 of the national team or anything regarding 2010...

Tony Meola in not nearly in the same class as Friedel or Keller
