This should be a Sam's Army song! I found these lyrics posted on another website. I don't know what the tune is but it would be amazing (Much better than USA USA USA). It could be like our "Fields of Anthenrie." A little political for some people's taste but I like it.

"Columbia, Gem Of The Ocean".It was once our unofficial national anthem. Now,all we have to find out is how the tune goes....but anyway here it is,imagine all of the American supporters singing this as loudly as possible...would be awesome...

"O Columbia! the gem of the ocean,
The home of the brave and the free,
The shrine of each patriot's devotion,
A world offers homage to thee;
Thy mandates make heroes assemble,
When Liberty's form stands in view;
Thy banners make tyranny tremble,
When borne by the red, white, and blue,
When borne by the red, white, and blue,
When borne by the red, white, and blue,
Thy banners make tyranny tremble,
When borne by the red, white and blue.

When war wing'd its wide desolation,
And threaten'd the land to deform,'
The ark then of freedom'm foundation,
Columbia rode safe thro' the storm;
With her garlands of vict'ry around her,
When so proudly she bore her brave crew;
With her flag proudly floating before her,
The boast of the red, white and blue,
The boast of the red, white and blue,
The boast of the red, white, and blue,
With her flag proudly floating before her,
The boast of the red, white and blue.

The Union, the Union forever,
Our glorious nation's sweet hymn,
May the wreaths it has won never wither,
Nor the stars of its glory grow dim,
May the service united ne'er sever,
But they to their colors prove true?
The Army and Navy forever,
Three cheers for the red, white, and blue,
Three cheers for the red, white, and blue,
Three cheers for the red, white, and blue,
The Army and Navy for ever,
Three cheers for the red, white and blue."

Good luck trying to get people to remember that.

I'd stick with the songs that we learned in grammar school.. at least there's a chance people will know the words. America the Beautiful, God Bless America, etc.

I was trying (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256760) to get a Sam's Army lyrical version of "Battle Hymn of The Republic" going, but it needs some work:

We come from far and wide to your countries without fear,
We sing and chant and party all night while drinking all your beer,
In the morn' we raise Old Glory to a raucious cheer,
Sam's Army marches on!

CHORUS
Glory, glory Jeonju!
Glory, glory Jeonju!
Glory, glory Jeonju!
Sam's Army marches on!

a song made by a bunch of wankers...no thanks The Star Spangled Banner is set to the tune or melody of an old English drinking song, "To Anacreon in Heaven", but that didn't stop Francis Scott Key from writing it in 1814 after the bombing of Baltimore's Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. It didn't even stop the US Navy from recognizing it (1889), nor the White House (1916), or Congress when it officially became the National Anthem (1931). But, yeah, the English are a bunch of wankers and that Columbia song above's about as long as War and Peace! ;-)

On the other hand, a slightly edited version of the SA Battle Hymn of the Republic has some potential:

We come from far and wide to your country without a fear,
We sing and chant and party all night while drinking all your beer,
In the morn' we raise Old Glory to a raucous feckin' cheer,
Sam's Army marches on!

CHORUS
Glory, glory On-wey-u!
Glory, glory On-wey-u!
Glory, glory On-wey-u!
Sam's Army marches on!

9 out of 10 people will still sing Hallelujah though, still that song is great for us, even if we just manage to sing the chorus.

I can dig it. Remove the word "while" from second line and the cadence is better (imagine a comma in there).

America the Beautiful is hard to top, except those high notes "above the fruited plane" part. I was also always partial to the first verse of Yankee Doodle Dandy:

I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy
Yankee Doodle do or die
A real live cousin of my UNCLE SAM
Born on the Fourth of July

Yankee Doodle came to town, just to play some footie
I am that Yankee Doodle guy!

What ever happened to that push for singing "Over There" over there?

(Over There, Over There
Send the word, send the word,
Over There
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming,
The drums rum tumming everywhere
So prepare,
Say a Prayer
Send the word,
Send the word to beware
We'll be over, we're coming over.
And we won't be back till it's over over there!)

Any rough estimates on how many English will be arrested for chanting "Two world wars and one world cup"?

...Especially when they've been drinking for the past 4-5 hours and can barely even stand up.

KISS, especially since we're all drunk!

Also, why does this confusing stuff keep being brought up? Even if we passed out song sheets during the tailgate, we'd look like a church choir all singing off songsheets.

Exactly. The more creative stuff can work well at MLS games and smaller US games (or road games) when there's only 1-200 people there and thus one person can be more easily heard, but when you start talking supporters' sections of a couple thousand people which I think is what we're looking at in Germany there's no way that something like "Columbia, Gem of the Ocean" goes anywhere.

This (http://bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7744177&postcount=16) is the type of stuff we need to focus on. Get as many people involved as possible and get as loud as possible. That's not an all-inclusive list, for one thing the "F#ck Yeah" song needs to be added (maybe not KISS, but everyone knows it), but it's a start.
