Maybe in some games I would pick Carrick ahead of Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard in order to have a real sitting midfielder," revealed Eriksson

Is Sven bullshitting?

Is he coming to his senses?

Is Carrick now the default defensive midfielder if we need one?

It seems that Beckham will not be dropped no matter what. Gerrard or Lampard ? tough decision.

Lampard and Gerrard do not work as a partnership against clever teams, too much lost possession and getting caught out on the counter attack. We've seen that over and over.

Although I see no reason why Gerrard couldn't move to the right in place of Beckham.

I wish Sven would stop revealing his tactics to all and sundry months in advance. He seems to have some kind of condition where he just can't keep anything to himself.

I'm thinking of phoning him up and asking for his credit card number.

Who knows though? Maybe Sven is demob happy, realises that he can just get out of the country after the world cup and is selecting his tactics on who he thinks will work best rather than who he is scared to drop.

He'd probably give you the right numbers but in the wrong positions.

If Sven is stupid enough to play Carrick but not drop Beckham, Lampard makes more sense to drop. Because he's similar to Carrick in that he likes to distribute the ball. Lampard is right now what Beckham wants to be.

Replace Beckham with Gerrard and everything would be great.

If I see either Gerrard or Lampard placed on the bench I'll be furious.

I think England would be very, very strong with Cole, Carrick, Lampard and Gerrard. Damn, can you think of another midfield with that kind of physical presence and offensive firepower?

Everytime Beckham goes to tackle someone you KNOW he's going to be booked.
Everytime Beckham is closed down you KNOW he's going to lose the ball.
Everytime Beckham's on his left foot you KNOW he's going to spend five minutes turning round so he can use his right.
Everytime Beckham takes a free kick you KNOW it's either going to hit the wall or miss altogether.

Lampard and Gerrard are both effective at set pieces, what is Beckham needed for?

Parker is very good but as good as Lampard and Carrick? As compared to Carrick he may have a bit more skill but he isn't as strong and Carrick can really allow Lampard freedom. Then you have two formidable wingers that are not only skillfull but strong and have a real physical presence (give Jose credit for transforming Joe Cole). I just think that is a very hard team to beat assuming you can bag a few goals. The back line is "okay" as I am not a huge fan of Terry. Good in the air and at his positioning but not so great with the ball (never loses it but can't really push forward that well either, not that he has to) and Rio seems to have lost skill since he went to Man U. However, still both very good players. Too bad about the injuries at outside back--not sure what Sven is going to do with that.

You don't watch the premiership every week do you?

I don't know what he's lost, there is something missing/different, but it isn't skill. WHEN he switches on, he's still got the best stuff going for his position.
