1 - Squad Make-Up - all drafters will (in the draft order specified) select a squad of 16 players. At least one player must be a goalkeeper but there is no need for a second goalkeeper. There are no other restrictions based on possitions.

2 - Player Eligibility - any player selected must have played a minimum of 30 games (for club and/or country) over the past two seasons. In addition, at least 20 of those games must have been made this season. This excludes keepers.
NOTE: Players must have met this requirement by March 6th to be eligible. Any player who has not played the requisite 20 (or 30) games by March 6th will not be eligible.
To be eligible the player must have made 20 appearances last season and the equivilant of 50% of his clubs games this year. If his club have played 12 games this year he must have made 6 appearances (including internationals).

3 - Form and Injuries - a player's form is going to be assessed primarily on this season, partly on last season with form over previous seasons a smaller consideration. All players will be assumed to be fully fit provided they meet the selection criteria above.

4 - Draft Order - the draft order has been determined. Any drafter missing their turn.

5 - Judges - seven judges will be announced towards the end of the draft. Tactics must be sent to each judge prior to each round of the tournament (see below) and full details of requirements for the tactics will be issued towards the end of the draft.
Note - there was a player drafted who were not technically eligible, and thus the judges will take the injury (ies) into account. Javier Mascherano, this means you.

6 - Post-draft Tournament - with 32 teams, the tournament will be run along the lines of the World Cup. 8 randomly drawn groups of 4, top 2 advancing into a straight knock out tournament. The format of the knock out tournament will be copied exactly from the World Cup format. If for any reason there are less than 32 teams then some of the groups will only contain 3 teams.

7 - Champion - the winning drafter will have the option of picking first in next years draft on top of any kudos that comes with winning. In addition, they may also add to their signature the line "2006 Big Soccer World Draft Champion".

8 - Flexibility - the rules are set in stone. If you are not happy with them then you are under no obligation to take part.

9. Missing your turn - You forfeit your place in the round and will pick at the end of the round. If you wont be around at the time the round ends make sure you PM somone your pick. You will be given a 2hr window at the end of the round to post your pick, otherwise you are forfeit again and will have to make your outstanding pick at the end of the current round.

10. Drafters are not permitted to talk about as yet unchosen players in the Draft. We'd also request that observers of the Draft adhere to this rule.

11. If BS is playing up or down completely and others can corroberate they have had trouble getting on the site, leniency with missing timeslots will be OK and allowances can be made under such circumstance.

12. During your window, you may only pick if 1) the drafter prior to you has picked or 2) if the prior drafter's time has run out. Even if it is your window, you cannot pick before either 1) or 2) have occured.

I have a question, do preseason matches count, or just official (league, cup, europe) games? I'm not sure, but the elegibility of some players may depend on that.

Well, what about international friendlies?

Dark Savante

Yes they do. Just no club pre-season stuff. NT games are fine.

What if the player is not injuried but seldomly used by his club? For example, Solari of Inter Milan. I do not think he has 20 games this season.

If a player is named in the squad i.e on the bench, for games then that counts as an 'appearance' beings as he is fit and able to play if called upon.

Although given that the primary criteria for selection is going to be this season's form, why would you want to pick someone who has only played a handful of games?

That makes life much better, there are some players who have not played that much but have been excellent when they have played.

So, suppose a person has a 3rd pick and comes 20 minutes after his window closes. He has to wait until 29 other people make their picks before making his selection???

Yes.

If you know you're going to be late or whatever leave your pick with somebody else. This year the draft will not turn into a farce and the rules apply for all of us.

ok, one thing though, what if he shows up BEFORE the next pick is taken? Would he be allowed to pick? Note - I'm not arguing - just seeking clarity.

That entirely depends on the leniency of the drafter ahead of you. We're not trying to run this thing like the death star, but it will definitely be made to work better than it has in previous years. It's just so easy to leave your pick with someone that that will have to be utilised by those who may have to go AWOL

I would say if the draft order remains as specified then it is ok to pick. If however, the next drafter picks at the same time and the same player is picked then the drafter who is late loses out and must wait until the end of the round.

Thanks for answering my question. many bench warmers on big teams are better than star players on so and so team. I can name a brunch pf players who probably did not play more 20 games this year and would be drafted.

BTW, where is a good place to look for appearance record? I used goal.com last season, but they changed their format.
