Portugal or England may be the answer

WHILE the final numbers have yet to be counted, organisers of the New England Revolution tour last week are disappointed for the second year running about the number of Bermudian fans who showed up to watch the games featuring Bermuda, the Revolution, Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense and the Jamaican Under-23 squad.

FWIW, I think a healthy Khano Smith would have brought a few more people out, and if the tour organizers can bring in another, if not couple of other clubs for a mini-tournament or training (think a Bermudian version of Malaga), then I think more fans might come out.

These things can take time to build a following it's not just a one chance deal.

He's at least a hero. Why else would the Gazette have run so many articles about him last season?
In the big scheme of things it's kind of like being a star for the Mutts. You may get periodic stories about you in publications, but if a real team ever comes to town you get ignored by the writers.

Unless MLS aligns with the euro schedule and the camp takes place in january, I don't see any team coming that would be a draw.
I'm very much opposed to MLS teams playing a lot of other MLS teams during the preseason. That's just what the league needs: every team knowing how to stop every other team before the season begins!
So that would be one of the positives with aligning to the fifa schedule. There would be many more options when selecting preseason/winter break opposition.
Negatives: cold, wind, snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain/snow mixture, snow/rain mixture, frozen pitches, frozen fans, frozen fans being abducted from tailgates to shovel snow, and me getting the sniffles.

Well, maybe that would work. The Bundesliga takes a winter break, as does the Scottish Premier League, so imagine the possibility of having say..., well, Celtic, New England, Bremen...

Hey, there are a lot of lurkers from Bermuda here who value our input.:)
Besides, Kraft could put on a mini-tournament if MLS had a summer break. Ed and I could rock the ambulance when Franchino takes out Keano: http://spaces.msn.com/ManchesterBuccaneers/ (Feb 23 entry).

_____and the Bermuda National Team as the forth participant. :D
If that didn't prime the pump for top level soccer for the Islanders I think the promoter could safly say-----it's hopeless.

Most of us here weren't surprised in the least bit that no one showed up down there to root on our boys. I don't know why anyone thought they would ... but people did, so ... ?

Let's not get crazy. It would probably be more like Dunfermline and Hamburger SV.

Since when did *attendance* become a significant factor in where to hold the preseason training???
FWIW, the CCC game drew 1500. I think that's a fair bit more (3X ?) than they would have drawn in NE in February.

Attendance shouldn't be a factor at all in relation to preseason training.....But it MUST be a factor for tournament matches, especially your confederations championship!
As far as you saying that the Revs/LDA would have only drawn 500 up here....What do you base that on?? Have we ever played a CCC match up here?? And the bottom line is unfortunately, we will never know what we could have drawn up here in February...
One thing has been proven, the folks of Bermuda could care less about Khano Smith and the Revolution....and everyone that said that they would come out to support us was wrong....

Assuming that there were roughly 1,200 Bermudians at the game out of a population of 60,000, that 2% of the population...are you telling me that a Feb game in New England would draw that well pecantage wise? NFW
Had Khano been healthy and advertised as playing, there would have been at least twice as many Bermudians in attendance. IMO
The Rev's like Bermuda and Bermuda likes the Rev's.

Actually using your own statement, I think that the Revs like Bermuda, and Bermuda likes Smith.
I guess the issue is (fully taking the field issue out of this, since I do understand why we played this game down there) ... would you rather have 1,500 Bermudans at the game that would like to see the Revs win but don't really have a vested interested, or a 1,000 of us up here that would have been rather vocally supporting the team because there's not a chance in hell we wanted to see this team lose.
I'm biased as hell, but I know I'd rather have the latter.
