With Marodona proclaiming him the next him and his unbelievable performance vs. Barca. His dominating performance vs. croatia and the fact people are now call him the 2nd best player in the world behind ronaldinho. What do you guys think of him now and his future potential.

I think this has been done before and nothing has changed since then.

I didnt say anything in the last thread... if there was one. But he is the best young player under 21 in the world. Simple as that.

Wayne Rooney mocks you.

Scratch that...
Just because Im a Man Utd fan doesnt mean I have to be biased.
Rooney is very talented ofcourse, but putting my hate for Argentines aside, he is the best young player in the world. He doesnt have all that weight, he doesnt need all that power, but he still does his job effectively. 18 years old, so humble, but very talented. He doesnt give the ball away. He does track back some.
Not saying that he is way better than Rooney. They both have some apsect of their game that the other doesnt have. Rooney's incredible workrate and versatility. Hes tackling back and such...
But im not gonna fake Messi is the truth.

He's a good player, but not better than Rooney by any stretch of the imagination.

that's just laughable. Rooney's one of the best players in his position in the world, any age group. Messi right now is an AM cum Winger. i think he's good but I wonder what Robben, CRonaldo and other talented young players would do in that set up?
Messi is a good player, but he's feeding off of 3 world class attackers in crucial places.
Deco centrally, Eto'o up front and Ronaldinho opposite him. Barca was scoring for fun prior to Messi's imput and they'll score for fun without him. He's a good player, but the impact he's made on that team isn't as great as the impact Robben, CRonaldo and Rooney had when they came into their own.

The fact than an 18 year old can shine on a team with those names, as well as his national team is impressive though. You have to admit it. Its laughable that I have an opinion Johno? Whats funny about that?

At this present time i think messi is the best U21 player out there, closely followed by rooney.
There both fantastic players, for all those people who just say rooney in a blink of an eye should just think about it abit more. Hadnt Rooney gone around 8 - 10 games without scoring prior to the carling cup?. With messi's showing for barca / argentina i dont know how anybody can say he isnt the best U21 player in the world, at least at this present time.
For the guy that said Messi has been feeding off etoo deco ronaldinho, seriously watch a couple of barca games. The guy has been arguably our best player this season, he doesnt just let ronaldinho and deco do all the work whilst he finishes it off. He does just as much as work as those 2 do.

Yes, CRonaldo and Rooney have had quite an impact. ManU haven't won anything since starting the two of them.

He was Argentinas best player vs. croatia scoring one and having his other goals kicked in before it went in by tevez.
Lets see rooney put on a performance like messis next time he faces barca.

When has Wayne Rooney played against Barca?
I'm sorry but I really fail to see how people can already be putting Messi on such a pedestal after half a season.

The difference between Rooney and Messi is mainly the extra two years that Rooney has on Messi.

Quite possibly true, but that is Rooney's advantage at the moment.
People can talk about Messi against Croatia (I must confess I didn't see the game), but Rooney destroyed them at Euro 2004. That was two years ago and at a major championship.
Messi opened his international career by being sent off after two minutes.
Rooney has played in two finals in his career and was MOTM both times. Rooney is in my opinion clearly the better player at the moment, though Messi is blessed with phenomenal potential.

People did the same for Rooney just after because of his 4 games in Euro 2004.
Messi is being put on such a high pedastal because despite only being 18 years old, and not being Barca's primary weapon, he still stands out on a squad full of superstars. I havnt seen him have a bad game, apart from his international debut.
Is he better than Rooney? Im not going to even try and answer that question. Its a lot closer than people think.
One thing that stands out to me is Messi's ability to ride challenges, even with his lack of size. He fights hard, he doesnt have the extra power that Rooney has. They are both dangerous weapons, and its going to be an interesting world cup.

I would say over the past month Messi has done more work than those two imo. He is class. What I don't understand is the need to downplay either Messi or Rooney. They both are great players and we're blessed to be able to watch them develop.

Rooney had already had two seasons as a pro before Euro 2004. He had more time and actually delivered on the big stage.
Messi is having an excellent season, but I think its too early to be making these judgements.
