There have been a few transfers since the 2002 season, and they all can be found here. Big news out of HB as Jón Rói Jacobsen has left the club for Brondby. Disappointing news about of Klaksvik as Allan Mørkøre has left KI for B36. :( Kurt Mørkøre has also left KI to play in Norway.

The preliminary round of the cup is supposed to begin this weekend (March 9th). However, in the past the pre round has been postponed because of snow.
TB (second division) should have no problems with fourth division club FRAM. LIF (second div) should beat Royn (third division), but this game could be close. AB could surprise a few people by beating IF. It is also a strong possiblity that B71 will upset first division club Sumba.

Results of the preliminary round (division in brackets)
FRAM (IV) 0 at TB (II) 8
Royn (III) 3 at LIF (II) 2
AB (II) 0 at IF (II) 0
(AB wins 6-5 on PKs)
Sumba (I) 1 at B71 (1) 1
(B71 wins 5-4 on PKs)
I am shocked to see Royn beat LIF. LIF are usually one of the strongest teams in division two, and I didn't think that they would lose at home to Royn. The win by AB is also rather surprising because IF are one of the favourites to be promoted to the first division this year. AB were just promoted from the third division last year.
Round 1 - Qualification to group play (winner)
AB at Sumba
Royn at TB
I don't know if Royn will be able to upset TB because knocking off two quality second division sides is a tall order for a third division team. There is a huge drop off of talent from the second division to the third division.
Both games will be played on March 15th.

Any idea how Marcelo, Messias, and Marlon Jorge are doing at B68 Toftír? :)

How do you know about these three players? :)
Messias Perreira has left B68 and has joined NSI Runavik.
Marlon Jorge went back to Brazil and I believe Marcelo is still with B68, but I am not sure.

Thanks for the update, I have a few Faroese links (probably the only ones that exist) but do you have any useful ones? I know Marcelo was top-scorer a few seasons ago.
I know about them from the book, Futebol: The Brazilian Way of Life by Alex Bellos, excellent book. The chapter is called "The Match at the End of the World." :D
He goes to Marcelo's house to talk to him and his wife and later meets up to interview the other two Brazilians.
The president, Niclas Davidsen drives him around town too. :)

It must be quite a culture shock for the Brazilians in the Faroe Islands. I assume that the interview is not printed in English?
www.hb.fo is the best site for up to date news on the Faroese league. They also have a good links section....

Yeah, it definitely is. The player he got to know the best, Marcelo, was absolutely miserable there but he earned a lot more money then he would back in Brazil. He lives a very comfortable life and can even afford to take care of his family back home. He's one of the many professional players who grew up in the favelas.
Everyone in the town works at the fish market as do the players during the day and Davidsen also runs the company. He thought all Brazilians were amazing players so he bought them without even thinking twice or evaluating them. Marlon Jorge turned out to be a very average player even for Faroese standards. But they kept him on for awhile because he was a top employee at the market. :D
The book is in English. I'm not even sure if it was originally published in Portuguese. The author is English with a Brazilian background, he writes for a few of the big papers (Guardian, Financial Times etc.).
Thanks again for the link.

If B71 wins with penalties from Sumba, how can it be that Sumba plays AB in the second round.
Further questions:
AB is from Argir , a small suburban town from Torshavn. Do they have there own complex in Argir. Or do they play at the B36, HB complex?
Why isn't there a faroe club in Kollafjordur, Nordskali, Vestmanna and Hvivik?
I like the AB blast - I would like three Torshavn representatives in the highest

I made a typo, Sumba won on PKs.
The only result I could find from the two games today was... AB 3 Sumba 2.... surprising road victory for AB. They now join EB/Str, KI, and VB in the group stages.
I believe AB has their own field (from what I can remember about my trip to the Faroese in 1999). However, there is another club called FRAM which is based out of Torshavn. They play all of their matches at the B36/HB complex, but their top team is in the fourth division (out of five).
Not sure about the villages that you listed. These villages are probably too small to have their own clubs.

It looks like TB beat Royn (III), but I wasn't able to find the score. If this is correct TB will join B68, FSV, and NSI in the group stage.
All three groups begin next weekend.

Results from the first games played this past weekend....
Group A
TB 2 B68 2
NSI 4 FS Vagar 2
Group B
AB 1 VB 2
KI 0 EB 4 :(
Group C
HB 7 Skala 1
GI 2 B36 0
A few interesting results this weekend.... TB (second division) managed to tie B68 and GI beat B36. B36 has been declared the odds on favourite to win the 2003 Faroese Championship. I am rather disappointed to see that KI lost 4-0 at home to a weak first division side.

HB vs B36 --- played today
No real surprises from the games this weekend. However, nice to see that KI bounced back from a horrible loss at home. The HB vs B36 game should be intense. When these two teams play they usually attract 3,000+

Top two from each group and the two best third place teams advance to the QF.
Big win for KI at home against VB. If they didn't beat VB, their hopes of moving on to the QF were basically gone. KI looks to be in good shape to advance because they travel to Agrir tomorrow to play AB (should be an easy win).... I hope....
