Dunno where I talked about this before at, but decided this was good enough.

Mandarin is actually really easy. Of course the hard part is always vocab especially learning the symbols will be tough, but the grammar is incredibly easy compared to others (especially my year of French). Hopefully I can get decent at this then move on to Cantonese. :D

Mandarin is very close to English.. For the most part the grammar is portable. "I want to go to China" is "Wo yao qu zhong guo".. same grammar structure. For asian languages, Japanese is one of the harder ones. "I want to go to Tokyo" essentially becomes something like "I want to, Tokyo, go" in Japanese (told to me by my Japanese housemate).

It's good that you know mandarin.. but do you know how to write? Because you must be very intelligent if you can read and write chinese already. It's much more pictorial than english with symbols and such, so much such that psychologists have investigated how people who are versed in mandarin read/write have a slightly more developed faculty for image processing.

Anyway, I don't know Cantonese.. so darn you! All you have to learn is how to pronounce the words though.. they essentially have the same underlying words (literally).

No I don't know it yet, but essentially they are forcing us to learn it in the class we are taking, so I am at the 2-year old stage right now. :D I can recognize your basic 5 or so symbols but thats about all for now.

I started school yesterday. I was pretty excited studying about John Milton, Native Americans, Mythology, and Survey of American Lit, and then I realized that CL starts next Wed. ********!!!! To make matters worse, the Spurs match is on at 9am on the West Coast, and I go into work at the same time. Crap. Thank God I can't afford a DVR, its going to be VHS for me. I've yet to move on....
